NAGA Ft Worth?

Anybody else competing at NAGA this year? I'm planning on doing the Sept comp. This will be my first competition. I'll be in the Beginner No-gi and white belt gi HW divisions. I've been doing BJJ for almost 2 years with about a 6 month break in the middle somewhere when my wife had our second kid.

I'm already sitting right at 225 so I won't have to worry about weight. I'm hoping I can at least win a couple matches, we'll see. I'm not expecting too much out of my first tournament.

I'm thinking about it. I'll probably roll just beginner nogi. I'm HW also but I don't roll with a gi at all. We'll see though because my anniversary is the same day so I gotta keep the wife happy!

I'll be in the no-gi beginner and white belt at featherweight if I can weigh in on that Friday. I may have to do lightweight.

Yup, I will be there rolling no-gi in HW as well. Depending on how many they have, sometimes the novice/beginners get thrown in together. You and I may end up rolling. I'm fat, slow and old. You should have no problem.

The hw class will be split from novice/beginner as there are usually 12-16 each in both novice and beg hw.

And hell it sounds like we could have the beginner hw dfwstangs no gi bracket as we all fall into that category.

Because you haven't trained. If you're not working, you're injured. lol.

I talked to coach about you last night. He said if you want to fight, get your ass back there and they will get you into shape. They are doing it for Matt who has his first fight coming up soon with a local organization. Coach could do the same for you. But first you need to get into shape and get your skills up to par. He'll teach you to train right where you aren't injured all the damn time and get in steady workouts.

LOL, he about killed us last night with the workout and I was still sore from the day before from my test! We were working on some technique, but there was a to few many people standing around chatting so he said "ok, you got time and energy to talk, means you can workout" and the punishment began. lol. Running, 200 jumping jacks, 200 crunches, leglifts, jackknifes, up downs, supermans and then we rolled for 90 minutes. I thought I was gonna puke up a lung and thought Donnie was going to die. lol.

Besides when I pinched a nerve in my neck lifting weights in 2007, when have I ever missed a workout because I'm hurt? That includes all of the mountain bike wrecks and everything else stupid that I've done in the last few years.

Well, technically since you aren't on a schedule you haven't missed any workouts. But your knee recently kept you from training.

We need to have a DFWS workout for everyone to GTG and train again. Have fun and BS too

Why do you come on here and talk shit. It was 200 jumping jacks, side to sides 100 crunches which I did all of them and I believe you did around 40, the rest is about right. Don't forget the up downs you barely did and I don't remember seeing you while the rest of us were running. So I was doing horribly according to you but I did everything, you did about half so where does that put you fuck tard.

Negative, you'll be in intermediate.......white is novice/beginner, blue is intermediate, purple and up is expert ( or if you won 1st in intermediate you're in expert from that point on)

Good luck out there

PMS or what? Holy fuck are you a sensitive bitch. Let's not forget I tested the day before for 3 fucking hours with coach, sore and exhausted and I dont miss classes unlike you. I'm there almost everyday. It's funny, I skipped 2 up/downs as a joke and now I only did "half" the workout. Fuckin comedy.

On any other night, I can roll for hours while you're whining, sitting against the wall being the zero stripe white belt instructor when you actually show up. LMAO. Get'em killer. Hahaha.

I thought it was divided by training time, on the website it lists novice 0-6 months, beginner 6months-2 years then intermediate 2+ and the expert whatever it is.

Have a safe trip to San Juan.

I hated NAGA's last year in Dallas. I waited in the stands for 9 hours because they never told anyone what time they would start each division. I was so tired we were about to walk out when they finally started my division.

Other than that NAGA's is pretty cool, they allow anything you want, but at the sign in's they were dicks. Me and my buddy haven't practiced or competed since high school (almost 10 years) and they made us go Intermediate No-gi. Funny that someone with 2.5 years of experience is allowed to compete at beginner.

You're doing it wrong...

Read the registration form again and you are correct, blue belts automatically go into intermediate. Thanks for that catch.

It is divided for white belts, but once you hit blue you're automatically moved to intermediate, purple goes to expert regardless of training time.

BTW- You've been rolling for like 5 yrs.....you should be in the expert division...haha

It's in their hands right now. I'm nervously checking it every hour, but they definetely seem to be on brazillian time taking their sweet fucking time to do it. This wait is killing me not knowing. The longer I wait, the more I second guess myself. Did I do this or that, did I forget that.. etc. *sigh*

Isn't your instructor a black belt?? Why do you have to send off a tape to get a promotion?? I'm not sure if I just missed the explanation or what

He's a Machado black belt and a Gracie Academy brown belt. My coach can promote us, but it wouldn't be an "official certified Gracie rank" without going through all their steps. But I'm choosing to go through it all to have the verified rank from the Academy because at some point I plan on going through the instructors courses later down the road. Our school is one of two certified Gracie Academy schools in Texas. They are very detailed, intense tests that watch everything from the correct grips, traps, positions and so on and there isn't much room for error. I'm a stickler for detail and technique anyways, but it's still torture to wait.

It's where you are at the time of weigh ins not when you sign up. When they ask you how long you have been training or your rank you should man up and not sandbag. If you are bluebelt then let them know, don't be that guy that sandbags.

Understood, I'm being facetious anyways. I'll compete where ever they put me. Doesn't matter to me really. It's not like I'm in one of the cool divisions anyways, just the old and fat division. Few more years and I'll be in the Exec division! lol.

So you are only doing NoGI Masters Beg or Intermediate? Drop down into my age bracket and it might spur me to compete.

I'll do both if it will make you compete. But are you sure you want to do that? Not trying to be funny here, but the last time we rolled it didn't go so well for you and I was kinda screwing around. I don't want you to waste your money unless you're ok with it.

Ah cool, I knew he was a Machado black, didn't know about the other affiliations. That's cool, good luck.
