UFC 117: Silva vs Sonnen

Decent fight card this upcoming weekend. Sonnen has been talking crazy trash about Anderson Silva and I can't wait to see what is going to happen.

MAIN CARD

•Champ Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen (for middleweight title)
•Thiago Alves vs. Jon Fitch
•Rafael dos Anjos vs. Clay Guida
•Ricardo Almeida vs. Matt Hughes
•Junior Dos Santos vs. Roy Nelson
PRELIMINARY CARD

•Dustin Hazelett vs. Rick Story
•Phil Davis vs. Rodney Wallace
•Tim Boetsch vs. Todd Brown
•Charlie Brenneman vs. Johny Hendricks
•Christian Morecraft vs. Stefan Struve
•Dennis Hallman vs. Ben Saunders

This is a very good card... really looking forward to it. I think sonnen has gotten a little carried away with the shit talk - at this point it kinda sounds like he's trying to convince himself he can beat him.

I think fitch / alves may be a better fight than the main event, and although I don't hate roy nelson, I'm hoping JDS knocks his big ole jelly roll through the cage

I'm all for Sonnen winning.

Sonnen's shit talk is pretty good, he's been diong it for a while.

Ahh, I remember many years ago, T-shirt jerks made some shirts for Chael Sonnen for an event back in 2002-2003. I think John, juiced89lx, still has pics of the event.

I still have my old shirt, I'll sport to watch the fights

I'll be getting this one (as usual). You goons that have been over before are invited.

I didn't like the way Silva acted in his last fight, so I wouldn't mind seeing him get caught, but I don't think this dude is going to be the one to do it.

Hmmm... wharz jluv's pad? We'll be in town for my MIL's 50th, don't know when her party's shutting down, though.

Sonnen will definitely push the pace and make Anderson fight, whether or not he get's caught will have to wait and see. He's a tough SOB, and can take some punishment.

Sonnen actually has a good chance if he can get his hands on Silva. Just depends on which personality Silva shows up with. If he comes out pissed off, Sonnen may go to sleep quickly.

Hughes is going to get submitted by Almeida.

I'm rooting for Big Country Roy Nelson to put some FatFu on JDS.

Alves > Fitch

I was pissed after ordering 112 and said I would never pay for another A. Silva fight again. Sonnen did a damn good job of selling this fight because I can't wait to see if he'll actually be able to take the fight to Silva or he gets his brains fried by some crazy Matrixesque moves. Throw in JDS vs Big Country and I'm in to see what happens. Hope Fitch gets his bell rung hard early so we don't have to see him dry hump for 15 minutes. If Alves hasn't improved his takedown defense since GSP I'm afraid we'll be in store for a snoozer.

I really hope Sonnen can back it all up. Because if he doesn't it'll be great. I mean if Silva ends up making sonnen look bad and just plays around again, what is White gonna do? Kick him out? If you can't find someone to beat him it's kinda stupid that you'd just kick him out.

IMO. But i'm gonna be going for Silva hoping he makes Sonnen look like a fool. I say the only way you someone can beat silva is putting 2 guys in there at once against him!!! lol

Don't talk about it! Be about it!

I'm not buying this card cause I'm sick of Silvas circus act inside the cage. I'll try to grab it for free.

The worst thing Dana White can do to Silva is not give him any fights so he doesn't make any money until the end of his contract. No fights sitting on the sideline for awhile might adjust his attitude abit. But then again, Silva is so arrogant it may not phase him at all.

Strikeforce of course would pick him up in an instant, but for far less money and less than stellar competition. Who knows how Silva feels about it. He's made it known he wants to go to pro boxing to make "real money".

The only thing for sure is that everyone respects his skills, but is sick of his acting like a spoiled kid. But I would not put it passed White to dump his contract and kick him out of the UFC.

I do think Sonnen has a good chance but I don't know? I could really seeing it go either way. Hughes beat Almeida in ADCC but that was a while ago. I think Hughes wins this one. I think JDS/Nelson will be FOTN. I'm more excited about that fight than the main event and I think Fitch will grind this one out. We'll see, hopefully it's a good card.

First off opinions are like ass holes and everyones a tuf noob. Now with that said, I can see Sonnen get busted in the face eveytime he shoots, get Silva down and actually beat on him, or C be like Travis Lutter (whom I have trained with and have a ton of respect for). Get the take down and get submitted.

Dos Santos by dramatic ko in the first, Nelson for some reason will want to trade blows. Alves catches fitch on the way and and gets the win. While Hughes gets the take down and submitted.

Lol!! Silva and Dos Antos ftmfw!!

I was under the impression that their contracts were based on a specific number of fights, not time?
Also, who are the champions that Chael claims to have beaten? He says hes beaten every champ but Silva. Or is he referring to former champs?

He had a name for himself in the WEC. But I dont think he is UFC Champ material. I remember Sonnen getting the belt from the former champ of his weight division on the second time he fought the WEC Champ. But it took Sonnon two shots before he beat the WEC Champ if I remember correct.

The UFC has a clause in their contracts that they can cancel contracts/employment at anytime for any reason. The only thing the contracts really stipulate is how much money will be made per fight and possible bonuses for wins and appearances etc.

Sonnen has some wins over names who have been champion at some point, or were to be champ but never at the time they were champ. He's just talking shit as usual.

Looking at Sonnen's record and how he wins his fights grinding them out, I don't see how he can beat Silva. Lasting 25 minutes in the ring with Silva is a tall order to ask of anyone.

He has wins over:

Win Nate Marquardt Decision (Unanimous)
Win Yushin Okami Decision (Unanimous)
Win Dan Miller Decision (Unanimous)
Loss Demian Maia Submission (Triangle Choke)
Win Paulo Filho Decision (Unanimous)
Win Bryan Baker Decision (Unanimous)
Loss Paulo Filho Verbal Submission (Armbar)
Win Kyacey Uscola TKO
Win Amar Suloev TKO (Punches)
Win Tim McKenzie Submission (Brabo Choke)
Win Alexey Oleinik Decision (Unanimous)
Win Tim Credeur TKO (Punches)
Loss Jeremy Horn Submission (Armbar)
Win Trevor Prangley Decision (Unanimous)
Loss Renato Sobral Submission (Triangle Choke) W
Win Tim Williams TKO
Win Adam Tarsey TKO (Punches)
Loss Terry Martin TKO (Corner Stoppage)
Win Alex Stiebling Decision (Unanimous)
Loss Jeremy Horn Submission (Guillotine Choke)
Loss Keiichiro Yamamiya Decision (Majority)
Loss Jeremy Horn TKO (Cut)
Win Justin Bailey KO
Win Arman Gambaryan Decision (Unanimous)
Win Homer Moore Decision (Unanimous)
Win Greg Curnut Submission (Strikes)
Win Jason Lambert Decision

thanks JKD. So when Joe Rogan says something like.... "hes contracted for X amount of fights", is it based per individual? Just trying to grasp the concept.

Pretty much. The bigger draw potential the longer term the contract basically. I was talking about this with Guy Mezger last night and the buisness end of MMA is apparently pretty rough and cut throat type buisness. I learned ALOT last night hanging out with him.

No bets going for the Silva / Sonnen fight?

War is a ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight for, nothing which is worth more than his personal safety is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made so, and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Not that I gamble, but I think for most people this is an actual risky fight for a change. Usually a Silva fight is a no brainer, but Sonnen has a real chance if he can close the distance without getting hammered.

Man I didnt give Sonnen much of a chance when the fight was announced, but he has talked so much crap he made me a believer. haha I would love it if he pulls it off. He seems crazy enough to do it and has the wrestling to back it up. If Silva sleeps on this guy he will lose for sure.

I need to stop betting with Silvercobra03 because I keep losing.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!
