Why? Tyson Chandler would play great with J.Kidd. Carroll just keeps the bench warm and Najuara isn't a big loss.

I think we were all hoping to get more for Damp's contract but Free Agency just hasn't played out that way.

This may squash the rumors of getting Shaq since we'd now have Haywood, Chandler and Mahinmi at Center.

yeah, that's pretty weak. I would have rather held damps contract till the deadline. the kid is a real far fetched project and chandler was only good for 6 and 6 last season.

Guess this means shaq is headed back to miami.

I don't care for this deal. Chandler has had injury probs for awhile now, he was good with the Hornets a couple years ago but hasn't played well since then. Then Alexis is from the 08-09 rookie class, he hasn't done anything . He's averaged 2.2 points per game!! Woohooo, way to go Mavs.

i just felt like the damp contract was worth more but you have a point, free agency hasnt played out great. i still think holding damp till the deadline was a better move and hoping a decent team implodes and unloads next season.

i havent seen chandler play since he was in new orleans so i cant say for sure but i agree he is better than dampier. i still see him as a back up center that will cost $12 next year.

the other guy is going to be a bench warmer.

i feel like we need a good guard more than anything else. we have 100 forwards.

Damp's contract is only worth what we can get for it. I would like to see us getting something more than Chandler but I gotta think it we are making this deal happen then Cuban and Donnie have not got any good response on Damp's contract.

I know Chandler has had some injury problems but when healthy he plays D, rebounds and can run and finish when passed to. I guess i'm hoping we would get the healthy Chandler.

Mavs still have a deep line up. My concern is that there is still no one with the balls to relieve / help Dirk in crunch time. I was hoping Butler would be that guy, and maybe he will with a full off season with the team. I know it's putting a lot of pressure on Roddy but if he could step up that would be huge.

More on the story:

http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nba...ory?id=5377055

Sounds like financially this is a good move. Like the article mentioned, the Damp contract is not as big as we'd hoped.

Article also mentions us going after Al Harrington. I think this could be a decent pick up.

If the mavs also get Al Harrington I think this is a good move. They could have possibly made better moves but Harrington and Chandler (if he plays to his potential) are an improvement.

I agree its a good trade for the mere fact it frees cap space! And we know Damp isnt getting any better - maybe we can hit a few more FT's each game with Chandler!! Al Harrington would be a great addition to the team..

question about Chandler's contract:

his contract, just like Dampiers is set to expire 2010/2011. his contract is for $12.75 million, which is very close to damp's contract. I dont know the specifics but isn't this an expiring contract as well? If chandler under performs this season, can't he be used in a sign and trade as a solid trade chip or is there some kind of restriction on him?

The good thing is it's still a contract year so if he's healthy we should get his best.

Well, Denver scooped up Harrington. Not sure who else the Mavs have targeted to use their MLE on.

i think the mavericks don't need anymore forwards or centers. I'd say the glaring weakness is guards.

I'm kind of hoping we can get Tracy McGrady.
I know he has been chronically injured and overpriced but maybe we can snag him on a short term contract for sub $10M due to him constantly being a disappointment in the NBA.

I think his career is similar to that of vince carter or grant hill. Not a true bust, just injury plagued. just needs to be on a team as 6th man.

if not mcgrady, then raja bell might work.

The LAST thing we want is Tracy McGrady. Raja Bell would be a good fit but I think he may wind up in LA with Kobe.

Damp sucked ass since he arrived in Dallas, IMO. Can't the freakin mavs ever make a decent trade for a big man?

Looks like Raja Bell to Utah. Only guy left that may be interesting would be Matt Barnes. He would bring some defensive toughness and can shoot the 3 decent.

Maybe the Mavs can make a trade later in the summer as teams get more desperate with the start of the season drawing closer.

Well I for one was hoping we would get more for Dampiers contract but maybe i was overestimating what it was worth. I am thinking it would have been worth more once the season progresses and maybe teams who suck start dumping contracts(I am thinking CP on this one)

I saw on Sportscenter this morning that Chris Paul stated he would like to be traded before the season starts and Dallas is one of four teams he wants to go to (Orlando, New York, Portland are the others). He may not have a lot of leverage since he still has 2 years on his contract but you never know.

Cuban, make it happen.

sure would have been nice to have an expiring contract that matches cp3's so that NO could have the salary cap relief they are looking for...

Butler and Stevenson would work under the trade guidlines... Can't really see NO taking Jet or Marion

So Tracie McGrady went for the league minimum of 1.35 million to the pistons...

I totally would have paid $2M for a 15 min a game back up shooting guard.

Yea I was suprised that it took a while before someone picked him up. He has had a history of back problems in the last few years, but showed at times last year that when healthy he can still be a good player. Pistons are still going to need more than that to be a playoff team.
