Vickers Done For The Year
Brian Vickers says he will miss the remainder of the NASCAR season because of blood clots in his lungs and left leg.
Vickers was hospitalized with chest pains during a visit to Washington, D.C., last week. Further tests discovered the blood clots, and he sat out last weekend's race at Dover.
"I want nothing more to be back in the car," Vickers said. "I don't focus on the negative. I'll deal with the cards I've been dealt."
Vickers said on Friday that after returning to North Carolina last Saturday, he had a recurrence of chest pains and was readmitted to the hospital for two nights.
Vickers says the decision was then made for him to sit out the rest of the season.
Casey Mears subbed for Vickers last week at Dover and will remain in the car for now.
"(Mears) is doing a great job. We don't anticipate any change. We're very comfortable with Casey," team general manager Jay Frye said.
(This sucks for Brian Vickers, and I hope nothing but the best for him and hope he gets better. And Im glad Casey Mears gets to drive the car for the rest of the year. Nice guy
