Okland Raiders cut Russell

Posted 6 minutes ago1 Comment 1 Recommendation E-mail

After just three years, Russell's career with Raiders comes to an end
Associated Press

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders have released former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell after three unproductive and highly paid seasons.

Senior executive John Herrera told The Associated Press the move was made Thursday and that "we wish him well."

The decision comes less than two weeks after Oakland acquired Jason Campbell from Washington to take over at quarterback.

Russell will now likely be considered the biggest draft bust in NFL history. He will have been paid more than $39 million by the Raiders, while producing only seven wins as a starter.

He lost his starting job midway through last season. His career has been hampered by a rookie holdout, poor work habits, being overweight and the lack of productive players around him.

No. 2, and Russell hasn't been sent to jail yet. Besides it took years for the Chargers to recover from that debacle.

Possible, although I know they did reaquired lefty. Dixon should also be getting plenty of attention after he had that good first start against the Ravens last year even though they lost. He was showing some good ball movement and played well, IMO, except for the pick in OT. They also have Charlie batch, but no one is expecting anything out of him.

I doubt it. Jackson at least wants to work at it and try to be a good QB, It looked like Favre helped Jackson and Rosenfels while he was a Viking last year

Possible? lmao!

Oh never mind. Now that I've seen who posted this, the "possible" answer doesn't surprise me.

Hopefully they'll be able to hang onto him for a couple more years in the chance that they release Roethlisberger.

That's what i'm waiting on.... He needs to get a chance to start for somebody even if it's not with the Steelers, he is just to talented in my opinion to sit on the bench the whole game.

finally someone relates to what I think about him. Dixon was a great college player in Oregon. He could've won the Heisman but he tore his ACL I believe. In that sunday night game against Baltimore last year, I thought Dixon played great considering the limited time he had in 1st offense and time on the field in general. Expecally when he ran that QB scramble into the endzone

Heck Oregon would have went to the Championship that year if it wasn't for Dennix Dixon getting hurt for the final 2-3 games... Justin Roper took over as a freshman and just couldn't get the job done.

His first play in the NFL was a 57 yard touchdown run from the line of scrimmage in preseason his rookie year!

Edit:

Little info about Dixon

Following his junior year at Oregon, Dixon was picked by the Atlanta Braves in the fifth round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft.[14] Dixon hit only .176 in 74 at bats with two Atlanta Braves rookie league teams, and returned to Oregon for his senior football season in 2007.[15]

2007 Pacific 10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year[21]
2007 first team All Pac-10 Conference[21]
Received 17 first-place votes for the Heisman Trophy and finished fifth in the overall voting, while being the frontrunner in votes prior to the Arizona game.[22]
Finalist for the Draddy Trophy,[23] Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Maxwell Award, and the Walter Camp Award.
Winner of NCAA's Today's Top VIII Award.
Hayward award, given to the state of Oregon's best amateur athlete.

They did a comparison on Russells payments per completion.

Roughly $100,000 per completion and $5.6 million per win.

For comparison's sake, Tom Brady's(notes) total salary last year was $8,007,280, which comes out to $21,583 per completion. Peyton Manning(notes) pocketed $14,005,720 last year, and made $35,638 per completion.
