Grade the Rangers

Alright, lets grade the Rangers for their first 5 games. I guess it would be a good time since we have gone through our rotation for the first time.

I give the starting pitching a solid B. They kept us in pretty much every game, and had some really good efforts out of CJ, and Scooter.

The bats have been terrible. Other than yesterday they were looking pretty bad. I am not even sure if Bourbon has even had a hit yet, but I did miss yesterdays game. I would give the offense a C. It is just not clicking yet. Cruz and Guerrero can't drag the team along forever.

The bullpen, I huge F'ing F. We should be 4-1 right now. As soon as we have gotten past our starters everything goes down hill. That is my face when I see them pull the starter. Every time.

All and all, it hasn't been the greatest start, but there are some great signs from our pitching, and that almost always translates to wins. The overall grade would probably be a C+.

What do you guys think.

It's too early to be doing any grading of this sort. The bullpen has been fine outside of Franky.

The bats have been dead but that happens all of the time to start baseball seasons and it looks like they're finally getting into the swing of things. Andrus went 2-4, Arias when 3-5, Hamilton went 2-4, Davis went 2-5. I'm not personally concerned about the offense.

It wasn't a great first week, but there are 157 games left to be played.

True it is early to grade. But I figured what the hell, it is basically a grade of how they started the season off. I just think those first 4 games made the opposing pitchers look like Hall of Famers.

At least your Astros have been to a world series. Rangers haven't sniffed the playoffs in ten years, and 20 years before that.

Right now I would give them a C.

Starting Pitching B+ (only Harden has struggled)
Bullpen B- (not counting Franky Francisco)
Closer F (should change with Feliz taking over the role)
Defense C (they've had some errors and missed some plays)
Offense C (aside from yesterday the only contributors had been Nelson Cruz and Vlad)
Coaching C- (they should have pulled Franky sooner, he just didn't have it)

.

How is everyone so sure Feliz is ready to be the closer? I know he has some great potential, but is he really ready to close out a game? There is alot more pressure in that than being a setup man.

He has the tools to be a dominant pitcher, whether as the setup man, the closer, or a starting pitcher.

Franky Francisco isn't the answer at closer... who else would you put in his place? Darren Oliver?

Right now Feliz IS the answer, at least until he proves otherwise.

It's called sink or swim. If you're going to gamble to bring your franchise arm up to the league you don't let him rot away in middle relief; he either starts em or closes em out.

Ill give them a B-. Starting pitching has been good. The hitting got off to a slow start but now its starting to turn around. The only hole or concern I have is with the closer. I think Feliz can do the job though.

Anyone want to "revise" their grade?

After getting swept this weekend, we now know that starting pitching sucks, the fielding sucks, and the hitting is within "suckable" range. I'll go with a "C-", and after the Boston series, that could be a stretch.

It is kind of hard to judge them after a series with the Yanks. They definitely did not look like they were in the same league. But, the yanks were at home, they are tough there, and we, well we just suck right now. I think our pitching is somewhere in between of what we saw in the first 5-7 games and these games.

One thing that really concerns me, is that they can't hit left-handed pitching for shit. Washington has to change the entire line-up when facing a lefty: Hamilton in CF (Borbon is awful right now) and Davis on the bench.

No new injuries! Feldman and CJ did suprisingly well against the toughest lineup in baseball, Harden not so much. You can't do anything against Sabathia when he's on so the first game was already decided. The defense blew the second one and Harden blew the third one.

When they play them again at home they should have their heads out of their asses, hopefully won't face CC and by then Kinsler should be back.
