Shawn kemp to play in Europe.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3539904

Does anyone care that some NBA players are starting to go play in Europe? I know Kemp is an old ex-nba player and so just him going might not be a big deal but I was listening to the radio the other day(ESPN) and they mentioned that Kobe might take some offers next year to play and be part owner of some team.

Well, I don't think so...Are there any hoods over there for these guys to show off their bling? Do you think they have rap music during warmups in Europe?

As it was said money talks. When a player can make 50 million nontaxed it would be insane to not atleast look into it.

How would it be tax free? Would the player not have to pay tax to the country where he is employed? Years ago I hired a Canadian and he came here on a work visa...paid U.S. federal taxes.

I don't know for sure but I remember them saying on the radio that his contract money would be tax free.

The Canadian was employed in the U.S. which would mean he would have to pay the federal taxes here. There is a loop hole in some of the European countries, Russia being one for sure, where if you do not have a permanent residence in that country for over 8 months (i believe that is the length) that you do not pay the federal taxes. On top of that many European teams will pay the taxes on the contract if you do qualify for taxes. I am not as familiar with how basketball teams are doing it but I know for a fact that when American's go over seas to play hockey it is all tax free.

Sounds like a good gig then. However, I believe these guys are too ego driven to not play here. They need to show their bling here and be in the spotlight here. Kemp is a different story because he is winding down (I think).

Players with big endorsement deals (James, Kobe, ect) I think it would be hard to because they are making as much as more from that compared to their contract. Second tier guys tho, I could see making the jump.

labron said on espn the other day he would go play a year in europe if he could get around 50mil a year. top stars are taking notice to the ammount of money over there. i think it wouldn't be a bad thing if some top stars went over there at least temp. The other thing about euro teams is you can only have 2 americans (may be nba players) on your roster. i heard on gac the other day that college stars that would be 2nd rounders for the nba could goto europe and make more money than they would in the nba plus have multi million dollar homes and cars all free (something that euro players get when they get signed on). basicly you could play in euro with less strain on you for the same or more money than you would in the USA.

Who cares about Shawn Kemp. He is probably just going over there to get away from paying his child support that he used to get into trouble for. I dont think any of the big stars will go over the pond.

Kemp is broke, I don't blame the guy for taking work where he can find it.
