Word is Gruden (who was Green Bay off. coordinator back in the 90's) is in talks with Favre's representatives...the deal might be sealed up by the middle of this weekend!

LMAO! Even Murphy isn't certain about what is going on!

"We're going to retire Brett's number at some point," Murphy said, speaking at the team's annual shareholders' meeting. "... I think it's still enough up in the air that we want to wait and see how things play out."

I didn't think GB had actually released him yet. If they haven't (which I don't think they have), wouldn't that give GB recourse to sue like they are doing with the Vikings?

Yep...you are absolutely correct. This may have been Favre's plan all along (act like he's retiring so GB will cut him loose - then he can play another couple of years elsewhere)...but, seeing as how GB is team owned by the people, who knows what the end result will be (but, I do think you are spot on)...they have him on contract thru 2010.

Not that TB needs another quarterback

It depends really. If Thompson have Favre's agent/reps permission to talk to Tampa to see if it would fit then Tampa is ok to talk to him. It happens a bunch, just have to go through the proper channels for it to occur.

Paying a legend to stay retired. GB should be ashamed of themselves. Roger Goodell is a turd for letting this go this long.

If Brett Favre takes the money after all this "I just want to play" shit he will be the biggest sell out ever.

That is a sad legacy for a great quarterback.

That's completely false. Goodell needs to stop putting his nose where it doesn't belong, and it doesn't belong in negotiations between players and teams.

Looks like the Pack may have a QB issue. Rodgers will have to fight Favre for his spot now. Not that it will matter..."Cry-Baby" will be their starter...back to pad his career INT stats...

I would love nothing more than to see Favre go to Tampa and them to send him to the Vikings

Yep...

(from Minneapolis Star Tribune)

"The Packers, meanwhile, returned to practice knowing that Favre's days in Green Bay were over as trade talks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jets continued into the night. General Manager Ted Thompson was scheduled to address the media at 11:30 a.m., but that was eventually cancelled as the team wrapped up its second practice at about 9 p.m."

NY would never recover from that trade. It would be reminiscent of the Cowboys trading Minnesota Herschel Walker for half of their team. That trade is what started the Cowboy dynasty.

Bretts a pretty good QB but his days I believe have been over for awhile. One of the reasons McCarthy wanted him to tutor/backup ARogers, but of course like all old QB's they think they have 1 more year left

I don't believe that at all.

He's poured his heart and soul into this game, and wants to keep playing. He's better than a lot of the guys starting out there now.

But I do believe it's best for Green Bay to move on to Aaron Rogers now.

He's 38 yrs. old, he can't get away from his own shadow, I'm not debating his arm strength, but his scrambling skills are long gone, he'll be a sittin duck for the 24 yr old DE's trying to make a name for themselves. He has plenty of heart, but thats not going to help him when the gorillas in the mist come knocking on that door and least not forget that he went to the AFC East, there won't be an easy game this year...

He may do OK at best this coming year.. The Packers WR's led the league in yards after the catch. Who do the Jets have, Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery? He will be forcing it to Bubba Franks all season I think they go 8-8, 9-7 at BEST. Their schedule is tough!!

LMAO! So much for "one more year" when it's with the sorry ass Jets. That's gotta sting knowing that the new guy is leading "your" team on the field while you try to run your tank dry with a bunch of mediocre strangers. Kinda like being on a date with an ugly rebound and running into your hot ex-girlfriend with the kid that used to mow your yard.

The Vikings would be idiots, but... stranger things have happened.

No one has mentioned that the Jets gave up 53 QB sacks! 53! The "Pack" gave up 15. The Jets couldn't keep a healthy QB all year.
