Announcer will miss Broncos-Texans game with illness
Announcer will miss Broncos-Texans game with illness

By The Associated Press
December 12, 2007

Play-by-play announcer Bryant Gumbel will not call the NFL Network game Thursday between the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans because of illness.

Tom Hammond, who works Notre Dame games for NBC, will fill in, NFL Network spokesman Seth Palansky said.

Gumbel is expected back in the booth for Saturday's game between the Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers.

They are wanting to see what kind of feedback they will get, I'm sure. I can watch the game without 'mute' on!

That's exactly what they're doing. He's not sick, he's just laid-off for a week, pending reviews of his absense. It needed to be done.

He's an ASSHOLE. He is afraid to state the obvious and then calls everyone by the wrong name.

Player X gains 67 yards on a pass. Gumbel "I think he might have enough for a possible 1st down"

Don't be afraid to be wrong.

Either that or worried that you would spend too much time tailgating before the game

You don't think maybe he's got some kind of medical issue? I feel kinda sorry for the dude. He doesn't exactly look all that healthy, either.

Was making fun of the fact he says things like...

"He is the heart of the Packers offense" when talking about Barber.

The only medical issue I can think of to make him say that is Down's Syndrome.
