The Mitchell Report?

This report is set to be released today and all I can wonder is how can this be good for baseball and they used my tax dollars to pay for this?

Players have been cheating since the beginning of the game so I'm trying to understand why the witch hunt. Is it to protect the children? Save the game? Even the field? Government intervention? Knock the players down a notch?

How about they bring salaries back down, drop ticket prices and let these guys pound roids out of the sake of show? I'd enjoy going to a game more if it were $5 and was going to be an offensive showing of 12-11.

Andy yes, Ryan > Clemens!!!

Ryan gets it anyway by virtue of his beatdown on Robin Ventura.

Not if he's on the list. Wouldn't suprise me, the guy was built better at 43 than most pitchers are at 33. He's either a freak of nature or was getting help.

I wonder how the Astros feel trading 5 players for Miguel Tejada?

Why wouldnt they just wait until after the report came out?

If anything it should put Roger Clemens in the same boat as Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa. Also keep in mind that this was basically just players that cycled through a couple of teams and had two particular trainers. There are atleast 20 teams that weren't investigated. Also George Mitchell didn't have the power to subpoena anyone and had absolutely no support from the player's union.

What the record keepers need to do is classify all stats and records from 1985-2005 as steroid era and put an asterisk next to them. We'll never know what players for certain were using but look at some of the teams that Canseco and Bonds played for and it's pretty obvious who some of them are.

McGwire got snubbed in HOF voting again this year btw. I wonder if steroid use has anything to do with that?

I've heard this as well. Which means he should be put in the hall and given an apology.

You need 75%, he got 23.5%. Not even close!

I think he belongs just like Barry Bonds and Sosa. They were/are superstar caliber players in their era regardless of how they got there. If Cal Ripken Jr can use cortizone shots and beat out Lou Gehrig then Bonds deserves to be in if you can't prove he used banned substances to break Aaron's record.

Now if there is concrete evidence that a player violated baseballs's substance abuse policy they need to be removed from the record books. If Pete Rose can't get in the HOF because he bet on his own team then a player that used illegal drugs to set records doesn't belong in either.

Pretty much every professional athlete uses some sort of performance enhancing drug that wasn't available at some time in the sport's history. It's not fair to exclude players that take advantage of modern medicine and sports training to increase their skills if you can't prove they broke any rules.
