Could the Mavs tank it tonight?

Just throwing this out there for the hell of it. The Clips are 1 game ahead of Golden State for the last playoff spot. I can't read minds or anything, but I'm guessing the Mavs would much rather play the Clips than the Warriors in the 1st round. Is it possible that Avery give the starters some suspicious extra rest tonight?

I could see him giving the starters more bench time, but not because they want to lose. More along the lines of not wanting them to get hurt....

While Golden State appears to have our card since they've beat us the last 4 times we've played, I just don't see any way possible for them to keep that up in a seven game series. They can run with us a game here and there, but not seven straight. JMO of course.

I hope they fall in the playoffs, because I hate the Spurs. But I sure hope they keep this up towards the end of the season (except when they meet the Mavs next week). I'm trying to unload some Spurs playoff tickets I bought during the presale. haha

Yep. I'm fairly confident that SA will draw PHX and clobber them, and move on to the Mavs in the next round.

no matter what, with the spurs, suns, and mavs in the mix its going to be an awesome playoff year in the west...

I really don't thing GS could keep up with any of the top three in a seven game series, they don't have the depth.

I don't think the Warriors could beat the Mavs in a 7-game series, but the Mavs would have to work alot harder to beat them as opposed to the Clips. I think Avery will do alot of resting tonight.

They couldn't. Aslong as the Mavs play Defense and slow them down like the Spurs did to both Golden State and Phoenix, keep them out of the paint, and make a more concerted effort to get to the bucket and draw fouls/make higher percentage shots, they can beat them. That's the whole thing about that fast-paced style, all it takes is good defense to beat those teams(but that's better said than done). Hell, all it takes is good defense to beat any team.

The decision of whether to rest players or not will largely depend on how the team plays. If it plays well enough that he doesn't need his starters asmuch, he'll rest them, but the major rest times won't happen until they've locked up the number one seed in the West.

Ok I guess I wasn't clear in my original post. The Mavs would rather play the Clips in the 1st round, so in order for that to happen, the Clips need to win as many games as possible before the end of the season. Is it possible that Avery will rest his starters more than usual hoping that the Clips win this game, giving them a bigger lead over the Warriors.

I understood your post, you didn't understand mine. I'm saying that ANY team can be beaten with good defense, and Avery knows that his team can play good defense when they/WANT to. You REALLY think Avery would intentionally throw a game JUST to keep from facing Golden State? If anything, the Mavs have the worse to fear from San Antonio. They beat both Phoenix, AND Golden State within a few weeks of each other.

Just repeating what's already been said. Avery won't rest the starters so they can clinch there home court advantage. After this game I see Avery resting the starters more.

I'd say so. Dirk and Stack aren't even making the trip to Minnesota for tomorrow's game. Avery said if he saw them on the plane, he'd fine them. lol

Golden State bust up Utah last night. And with the Clipps losing here, they are now tied for 8th. LA has the tied-breaker for now though. This could be interesting
