Stars win finale over Chicago

Got a little momentum headed into the playoffs. Stars fell down 2-1 midway through the 3rd and then a minute later, tied it back up. Then with about 3 mins to go...Modano hit the game winner. 'Bout time the regular season is over. They need to knock this and the NBA back to about a 62 game season.

Now a little rant. I think the point system in the NHL sucks. Never really paid much attention to it before, but now that the Stars are sixth and Anaheim is 1st, it really strikes me that it doesn't make sense. Stars finished the season with 50 wins and Anaheim with 48. Stars should be ahead of Anaheim. Wouldn't have made too much difference since San Jose finished with 51 wins. But check out the Stars/Vancouver upcoming series. Vancouver only finished with 49 wins...thus the Stars would be ahead of them too. I don't think you should get extra points JUST because you managed to force OT in a game before eventually losing. Stars won more games therefore I think they deserve home ice advantage. Off the soap box now.

I agree There is no other sport where you get rewarded for getting to overtime. But yes good win to go into the playoffs

They only started receiving a point for getting to OT when they dreamed up the shootout. They got rid of ties and just gave the losing team in OT a point. It's not the greatest system but you have to give a point to someone, or else every team's total would be even numbers. It doesn't matter though, I like our chances against the Canucks better than the Ducks or Sharks. It just sucks the NHL playoff system doesn't work like the NBA's where no matter where you're seeded, the team with the better record gets home ice.

I think the points should only go to the winner period...whether its an OT win or via shootout. They should keep the OTL stat, and use that as a tiebreaker for playoff seeding should two teams end up with the same record - without awarding points. Whoever had the least amount of regulation losses would get the higher seed - since they made it to OT more - they were the more competitive team.

Regardless the Stars would not have been higher than 4th as San Jose would have been the division winner if it went soley off of wins. I really do not see the Stars getting by the Canucks either, because if it comes down to the goalies Luongo has a big edge over Turco.

I agree 102%. Oh, and thank Jonathan for helping me rename Choko(Turco) when we were up there last weekend.

I know...I made mention that the Sharks would have been ahead still.

However...being a 4th seed would have given Dallas home ice in the 1st round. Which is important by the way...>66%< of teams with home ice advantage have won their series over the last 10 years.
