Mavs n Milwaukee

Another rather ho hum game on the schedule for the Mavs. Bucks out to a good start though, leading Dallas early 16-9 about halfway through the 1st.

I'm ready for Thursday night's rematch against the Rockets.

Well, it's closing in on halftime and the Mavs are getting hammered. It's 50-35 Milawaukee. They just don't seem to have much energy tonight and are making a bunch of bad passes and missing some fairly easy shots. Lookin' pretty bad right now.

Mavs played some shoddy-ass defense in the 1st half and are down 58-45 at the half. Nothing the Mavs can't overcome. They finally looked a little fluid offensively just before the half. Hopefully that'll carry over into the 2nd half. I'm sure Avery will be preaching defense in the locker room.

Mavs didn't do much in the 3rd...just chipped 2 points off the lead and came into the 4th down 11. But they've started to gain a little momentum now and with a couple quick buckets, have closed the gap to only 6 points.

Mavs win! What a freaking display in the 4th period by the Mavs. They held Milwaukee to only 11 points and without a FG in the final 7 mins and 6 seconds. Dirk ended up with 38 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals. MVP! MVP!

There was some interesting talk on Mavs Talk on ESPN radio after the game tonight. One of the guys on ESPN.com was theorizing (sp?) that Phoenix might have given up the race for the conference championship and the number one seed for the playoffs and are resting Nash on purpose to keep him freshman for the second half of the season. He also went on about Phoenix not being deep enough with there seven man rotation and can be in real trouble if any of those seven get seriously hurt.

Discuss.

Nash is a guy who has to be on the court for the suns through the whole game. The mavs have such a stron team that by the 4th quater they have their starters on the bench cuz of a blowout.Mavs are jsut a few steps ahead of every1 in the 2nd half

The INSTANT I heard that he was out through the All-Star game, that crossed my mind - because before, they said it was a bruise and he was just resting it, and then for it to turn out this way? Didn't know they were talking about it, but I believe its true. I hope we still have a several game lead at the end of the season, so Dirk and Co. can sit out the last 2 or 3 games...if Avery would do that. I'd much rather have a week off right before the playoffs started as opposed to 2 months before.

Nash is known to fade as the season goes on, one of the reasons why Cuban let him go (injury prone). I can definitely see them resting him for a while to get his legs back under him for the playoffs.

What is funny earlier in the year everyone was debating which team had the deepest bench and the Suns always got the nod. Looks like they are not as deep as everyone thought. Hell they are playing with 2 out of 3 all stars and are now having trouble winning games.

id like the mavericks to get challenged like this more often so they know how to overcome this stuff when it counts.

Just found this over on USA Today's website. Could this be Dirk's first start in an All Star Game?

Quote:
Last week, Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni said he would start either Steve Nash or Dirk Nowitzki in the All-Star game in place of the injured Yao Ming because he felt both players should have been voted in as starters by the fans. With Nash out due to inflammation in his right shoulder, Nowitzki should get the nod if D'Antoni is true to his word. The other starters are Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and Tracy McGrady.

Why not?

His team has a better record than any of theirs.

That was never a debate. For the last 3 years, with Nash running the Suns, they haven't had hardly any bench at all. That's why they've never really been favorites to win it all. The last 2 years, they've only gone 7 deep. Players 8 through 12 are all spares.

Not just on him,but on the Mavericks PERIOD. I mean, how else do you explain the fact that last year, a certain team got 4 or 5 guys in the All-Stars game, and it was because,"They had the best record so they should be rewarded", yet despite the Mavericks having the best record in the NBA this season, they only have 1 player in the All-Star game up until both fans and commentators started questioning why he wasn't in.
