Can they do it next year without Jet? I'd like to say I doubt it. Spurs in '07!

Do you really think that Cuban is going to let JET get away after going to the team's first NBA Finals, EVER!?

Not a chance. JET is in for a big payday and Cuban is going to have the armored car back up to JET's house.

The Spurs are just another year older/weaker.

Ever heard of the Salary Cap? Keep in mind the Mavs are still paying Finley and The Mantis. Jet showed how good he is, some team will give him a huge contract.

And? Dallas will still be able to re-sign him long-term and have cap room to spare.

If anything, the Spurs need to go out and get some F/A's because their bench is a bunch of rotting corpses.

Spurs will get their free agents, don't worry. But the Mavs need to dump about
$30,000,000 in salary.

I'm still surprised this team was able to get this far. That alone has given me a new respect for them, especially Avery Johnson.
With that said, I don't know if Dallas can ever win it all without a slasher or someone who can play on the low block. A 2 or 3 that could post and slash is all this team needs to win it all, IMO.
Teams this far into the playoffs can all play good defense. They double team Dirk and get the ball out of his hands making him useles. The guy can't create his own shot nor play on the low block and earn his way to the line.
Terry emerged as a big gamer and is the reason why Dallas was in the finals.

Next year the Suns will get Amare back and the Spurs will certainly be there again. Dallas will have a tough road again.

I hate to bring up the past, but the Spurs stopped the Suns w/ Amare 2 years ago pretty easily. Sure they're a good team with a hard-to-beat style of play, but all it takes is a little coaching. I'll never fear any team coached by Mike D'Antoni.

I think we should go after KG in the offseason. Maybe he will want to coem here at a discounted price for a ring. It would be a great place for him...

yea but with him and that other guy tim can't play both and SA has no answer for the other. the suns are going to be hard to beat even for the mavs

If we don't address certain issues, no we will not be back in the finals. IF and a big if, the suns can keep Amare healthy. The suns will be the powerhouse of the west. Mark my words!

Have you ever heard that Cuban is a billionaire who doesn't mind spending the $$? Not as much as in his earlier days with Dallas, but I don't think he'll let Terry get away.

Half of that will disappear with VanHorn's contract off the books. He made $15mil this year.

Speaking of VanHorn, I thought the few key shots he made in the S.A. series probably meant he'd stay with the Mavericks - for key situations and as backup/relief for Dirk. But he disappeared in the finals and for that, I don't see him coming back.

I'm putting the suns at the number 1 spot initially. I bet half their team dies throughout the season like always. They will make it to a round or 2 and that's it.

If the lakers make a move to get KG, they will be pretty good, enough to be a second round playoff team.

It will come down to Dallas and SA. It all depends on who SA gets otherwise mavericks are taking it again.

As log as Dallas gets rid of the 3 headed monster of Diop, Dampier and Mbenga...they might be able to get back. All 3 of them suck, and I mean suck. What a waste of money those guys are.

Come to Dallas Ben Wallace!!!!

Didn't think Finley's money counted against the salary cap - that's why they dumped him, so they wouldn't have to pay the luxary tax. If you're not having to pay that, why should the money you owe the guy go against the cap?

You're a fucking FOOL. Those guys ARE our defense. I guess you're one of the boneheads that thinks points on the board is all there is to basketball.

And I know who is gonna take all the marbles next year, and it will be a team from the West. Drum roll please....

i was reading an article on yahoo sports earlier...and it said that Cuban is going to keep this team and keep em tight...he wont let anyone slip away....i think once dallas gets to the point where they can play a full 48 (minus the bad ref's) and be able to drive to the hoop instead of jump shot missiles that miss...then we shall be winning next year!

CFFL
Looking forward to the road that lies ahead...We enjoy reflecting upon past roads traveled, reliving our adventures through photographs taken and stories penned...Though, it's that next road that drives us onward...that next journey...And who knows where it'll lead?

No you're right. I was just saying you're still paying Finley $16M next year and Bradley some other rediculous amount. I know Cuban doesn't mind spending, but he's already paying almost $100M in salaries this year. Yeah, you get rid of Van Horn's contract, but you're going to have to pay as much or more for Jet's new one. They came up with some new rule regarding going over the salary cap and with the luxury tax, I just don't know what it is.

P.S.

I don't know why everyone thinks Phoenix will be that great. Sure, they're getting a Top 15 player back, but they already scored more than any team w/o him. It's not like they're going to score 140 a game now, the points will just be distributed differently. He'll make a bigger impact on the defensive side of the floor.

He disappeared, becuase the didn't play him.

I think Van Horn already stated he'd go, or take a huge cut, and stick around as a relief guy.

With Amara back, Phoenix will probably score 1 meellion points a game.

Seriously, guys stepped up so it should be interesting to see how good they are with Amare back and all the others so improved.

i thought NBA didnt have a cap ..rather a luxury tax

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

It's a cap that can be exceeded as long as you pay the amount you go over (luxury tax). I think it's a stupid system, because it's kind of like not having a cap. All the teams with more money can afford to go over, but this way the NBA just makes money. Conspiracy!!!!!

Players stepped up big time for them. When Amare comes back he is the best player on the court. Therefore Nash can run rampid and cause more kaos w/o being double teamed.
