D.J. Mbenga suspended for 6 games

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playof...ory?id=2466652

WTF? Its not like he pulled a Ron Artest and started swinging at people in the stands. He simply went up with Mark Cuban to help out Avery's wife dealing with some jackass Suns fans. FUCK YOU David Stern!

Well as long as they are being consistent with it I don't have a problem with the rulling. Could have been worse like a key Mav's player going into the stands.

Now didn't something like this happen recently before the playoffs? I remember some players wife getting into an altercation with a fan and the player went into the stands to see what was going on. Similar circumstance where no punches were thrown. Anyway remember this? It was on some East Coast team.

He wasn't even active or dressed out during the game. Seems really steep of a punishment for a inactive player in street clothes.

He is definately needed because Diop has a broken nose and both him and Dampier got in bad foul trouble all through the Mavs/Spurs series. Its never a good thing when your bench depth is reduced at any position.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing before I came across your post. He was in street clothes...a spectator. How the FUCK do you suspend a spectator? FUCK Stern.

True, but I guess we don't need him much in this series...but he will come in VERY handy against Shaq.

Exactly. Cuban went up and helped out as well, but he didn't get fined or anything.

Well look at this way conspiracy guys...he's suspended for 6 games...there's only 3 left max for this series so it's more for when the Mavs get to the finals to lose to the East!

Even though he's a "spectator", he's still an NBA employee. David Stern is a spectator too but he wouldn't have done the same thing.

I don't know why this is such a big deal, he doesn't even play.

You'd have been pissed if some Spurs benchwarmer was suspended for the same shit. And they had a shitty bench!

Doesn't seem right to me, he went up to quiet the situation, not to instigate shit. If my friend's wife was getting fucked with by hooligans, you're damned right I'd stand up and tell them to knock it off.

They made a good point on the Ticket this morning. if he got less than 6 the mavs wouldnt be able to replace him on the active roster and would have on 11 guys dressed. Which would you like?

Actually, that's a bad point. The NBA announced some changes in April directly related to this. You're allowed to have a 13 man playoff roster this year, but only 12 active for the game. In this case, they could have deactivated Mbenga and added whoever is the 13th man on the roster. Early in the playoffs, Mbenga was the 12th man and Van Horn was the inactive player. He can serve his suspension while being inactive.

NBA expands playoff rosters to 13
Posted: April 11, 2006

Associated Press

NEW YORK -- NBA postseason rosters will expand to 13 this season, with teams deactivating one player before each game.
This will be the first time teams will be allowed to make changes during the playoffs. In the past, they had to stick with the same 12-man roster throughout the postseason.

The new rule was approved by the board of governors and announced Tuesday.

NBA spokesman Tim Frank said the change was made to give teams the same kind of roster room they had during the regular season. Under the new collective bargaining agreement, rosters were expanded to 15, with teams placing 12 players on the active list before each game.

"We should have some type of flexibility since teams have been able to do that the entire season," Frank said. "We just kind of felt like that was the best way to go."

Teams that qualify for the postseason will submit their 13-man roster by 3 p.m. EDT on April 20.
