Dallas Stars made a nice trade

The Dallas Stars traded John Erskine and their 2nd round draft pick in this years draft to the Islanders for Janne Niinimaa and the Islanders' 5th round pick in this years draft.

Nice little defensive pickup for the Stars who have a chance to move into 1st place in the Western Conference because Detroit lost tonight.

There has actually been talk that the Stars are going to make a couple moves that could really help out in the long run, adding more scoring to the line up. NJ is looking to dump Gomez, thats about all I was told by Rick Wilson.

Yeah, I had read a few weeks ago somewhere that NJ was looking to get rid of Gomez. I have no idea why because that guy is a stud. I wonder what they are thinking they may get for him?

I disagree with this trade. Niinimaa has not been doing well in the new NHL. Erskin is not a scorer, but he's a role player. The type of player that good teams need. Niinimaa is a nancy boy with a whopping 10 points and a minus 7 to boot. The Stars just got softer.

What the hell was wrong with Erskine? He is good. And Razor needs to shut the hell up about everyones nationality. That's all he talks about. "Ohh the Fins are crashing the net!" I think they're just antsy to make a move.

The thing to keep in mind tho is Niinimaa and Sterling did not see eye to eye in NY, so that could have contributed alot to his play also. It is hard to find vetran defense men as young as he is also. I think it ends up working out but alot of that is I dont see Erskine having any value to the team because they showed no confidence in him and he looked lost pretty much anytime he was on the ice.

He was slow even in the old NHL. I haven't seen that many Stars games this season but I can only imagine how he is with the new rules.
