A new basketball league has been created and I get to pick the first international player.
I consider Canada's Steve Nash, the reigning MVP...but he turns 32 next season.
I consider first-team all-NBA forward Dirk Nowitzki ....but then I remember those playoff disasters.

I take, without further hesitaton, Argentina's Manu Ginobili -- a better player to build a team around than either of the others mentioned.
Even after another title run for the Spurs, I don't think people accept Ginobili for what he is. And that's the best No. 2 guard in the league, better than Kobe Bryant, better than anyone else you care to name.
I want a player who doesn't shrink from playoff pressure or whine about his teammates' flaws. I want a true leader who is at his best when it counts, and in the fourth quarter of Game 7, that was Ginobili.
I know no one out there can possibly dispute this.
