Thumbs up Texas Senate passes two resolutions honoring The University

Quote:
The Texas Senate recognized University of Texas freshman baseball player Adrian Alaniz today at the Capitol. The Senate presented a resolution to Alaniz in recognition of the no-hitter he pitched against Oklahoma at Disch-Falk Field on Saturday, April 16th. The no-hitter was only the 19th in school history. From left to right, Alaniz's parents Emmi and Norman Alaniz, Adrian Alaniz and Coach Auggie Garrido receive congratulations from the Senate.

The Texas Senate honored the 2005 Rose Bowl Champion Texas Longhorns football team Wednesday.

Coach Mack Brown, junior fullback Ahmard Hall and senior kicker Dusty Mangum attended the event at the Capitol.

Mangum's 37-yard field goal as time expired lifted Texas to a 38-37 victory over Michigan.

Sen. Gonzalo Barrientos, D-Austin, who sponsored the resolution honoring the team, said it was a Rose Bowl win for the ages. But some lawmakers from rival Texas schools had a little fun with it as well.

Instead of the traditional Hook 'em Horns salute, Sen. Robert Duncan of Lubbock, who graduated from Texas Tech, did the Red Raiders' "Guns Up" with his thumb and fore finger.
