Depends on what your purpose is, I don't think there is anything as good as the 660 for trails. It has tons of low end torque and the rear end is a little more narrow than a 700 so it fly's through the tight spots a little easier as well.

Whatever you get, if your riding trails?? make sure it has reverse. I know the 660 does, the yzf450 does not.

Given the quads you listed i would say raptor 660. Given the price range your looking at i would seriously consider the ltz 400 as it is a great trail bike and handles nice.

Anything you get you will have a blast on!

I chose banshee, because that is the true balls to the wall quad. But i have also ridden a 400ex and i loved it, it would be easier to fuel up with a 4 stroke then a 2 stroke, so i would have two have to choices on this one, banshee or 400ex.

I have never ridden a raptor but i have heard great things about them, some say they have too much power to go balls out and be comfortable, but then again they might be pussies.

all depends on what you will be using it for. The 400ex is a great trail bike, not so good at the dunes though. banshee's are only good for drag racing, they don't handle well. If you ride for any extended amount of time at once you will want a 4 stroke for sure. We went to the dunes with a group that had 2 banshees and they were always having to go back for fuel. reverse is overrated unless you are just that lazy/out of shape/ and lack riding skills.

I have personally spent alot of time on 400ex's 660 raptors and mine suzuki z-400. As stated before its all about what your going to do. 400ex and the 660 raptor are good trail bikes. banshee's are for the dunes and drag race for the most part, plus its a 2-smoke i mean stroke, but i will admit i have never rode one before.
I could not be any happier with my 05 suzuki ltz-400 its awesome on the trails and is powerful enough to haul me around qiuet well. im 6'1 250lbs I chose it because i thought it was the best all around bike.
my z-400 has a jet kit, intake, and full exhaust and will hang side to side with a bone stock 660 raptor.I personally dont like the way the raptors handle and i think cc to cc there not all that more powerful compared to the 400cc bikes.

handling: 1. 400ex 2. z-400 3. raptor 660
power/speed: 1. 660 2. z-400 3. 400
remember 400ex does not have reverse(reverse is a must for me) and doesnt put out as much torque as the other from the lower compression because it is air cooled and the other are liqiud cooled.

I don't know why everybody that has never rode a banshee says they are only for the dunes and drag racing. I own a banshee but i was not about to vote for it because i have yet to be able to ride it and have never ridden one before buying mine. BUT just because it is a two stroke doesn't mean it's not good on trails. Far as i'm concerned the only problem i see with it on the trail is lack of reverse. I've been riding a blaster (two stroke) for the last year and will admit to having to yank around on the bike a time or two, lack of reverse hasn't been that big of a deal.

Having said that unless two strokes are your thing (like me) i still vote for an ltz 400 or a raptor 660 since that's what your asking about. I've had the pleasure of riding sneaky's z400 and it feels like a caddy on the trails.

Well i picked myself up a Banshee. A Guy on Craigslist was asking 1500 for it.

We went to look at it and it was pretty rough looking so i offered him 900.

Gonna tear it down and get it all powdercoated, put in a new topend, tires etc.

pics up soon.

If you haven't found www.bansheehq.com go over there and search your ass off. There are a few good companies that make +2 +1 arms i wouldn't go any bigger than that if your going to ride it on trails. Personally i would find another stock arm to replace the bent one (hope the frame is not bent) and figure out how you like the ride, then go from there.

I been on that site all day looking around. The frame is fine. I just figure since im rebuilding it, might as well buy good stuff. Found a A-arm kit complete for about 340 shipped already powdercoated silvervein.

I have a small pile of cash for mods, since i only paid 900 for it.

Congrats on the Shee. There are a ton of aftermarket parts for them. I wanted one a few years back, but ended up with a modded raptor 700R.

Go to quadforce.com, we all hang there and have trips to local places, plus the Kermit Sand Dunes, Lil Sahara, and big trips such as Glamis an what not.

Nothing screams like a Shee. Here's a pic of my buddies Shee, it runs like a raped ape. About 80hp, running a Cheetah motor. It's badass.

Very nice indeed. Ya i pretty much get ocd when it comes to "little" projects like this. First I just wanted to clean it up, now im looking at +4 swingarms, +2 a arms, shocks etc.

I try to be a perfectionist when it comes to detail. That in itself slightly affects my wallet. Lol.

I just hope i can control myself when it comes to modding this beast. Their are so many parts, i cant figure out where to start.

Already figure out that i need a steering stem & axle. (bent)

I think im gonna focus on the fame and chassis rebuild before i tear into the motor.

Just kinda pissed taht i didnt take pictures when i got it.

It looks like i poured out my "spare" nut and bolt box all over my garage. Parts going to the powdercoater tomorrow.

Stay tuned.

how do you guys buy something and then completely take it apart before you even ride it? my sits for maybe three to four weeks at a time before i feel i am neglecting it.

that and wider A-arms, axles and longer swing arms are not the best for trails. sounds like you are setting it up for dunes and drag racing.

I would stay away from the +4 swinger if your gonna do much trail riding. Most guys swear by -1 swingers to stock unless like sneaky says your going for a dune runner.

You know why mine is torn apart. I would have been glad to be able to ride mine before tearing into it.

You would understang my reasons for the tear down if you seen it. I was ROUGH.

All the suspension is toast (blown shock) the pivot bolt was rusted to the bearings. I had to cut it off in two places to get the swingarm off. Surface rust on everything. I cant roll out looking like that.

Does the swingarm affect it that much?

I was playing around with the swingarm idea, but after you mention it, it would be nice to save some money somewhere.

Little project I've been working on.

A lil while back I picked up a TL1000R, just to play with, mod and eventually sell.

It's a 98, Jay Johnson's old bike. Needed a paint job bad!!! (No offense, Jay!!)

Here's the latest with the new paint job. I'm gonna order some mufflers soon and since the frame is polished, I think some chrome factory wheels will finish the bike off.

Your opinions?

And I added some mods to the Raider.

Cobra swept exhaust, PCIII, side LP w/ white LED, integrated rear blinker/tailight, took off pass seat and added the fender rack and I took off the small front fender and got a half wrap.

I will! It was a little rough. Missin a TON of screws and the small things that make the bike "tight". I found a place on Ebay that sells a fairing screw kit for $40 bucks. I changed out the air filter. The paint was good for a rattle can special but, after gas was spilled on it, it ran off like make-up on a crying hooker. So the fairings were sprayed with PPG "mystic" purple/green. Looks awesome in sunlight (over cast day when I took those pics.) The smoked Double-Bubble windscreen is on now!

The brakes pulse so I've ordered new pads and rotors and today I'm ordering some chrome factory wheels and some polished Yoshi mufflers.

I'll update with the final product in a few weeks.

Thursday nights in Dallas

I realize why a lot of people dislike sportbikes. Last night a group of bikes on 75 was southbound slowing all lanes of traffic down to 50 so they can wheelie there ragged out 600 and keep it at 50. I have a major passion for sportbikes and ride everyday possible. If you cant pull a wheelie at 60-65 plus you need to learn to ride better and not slow traffic way down to make an attempt at getting the attention you didnt get as a child.

I really enjoyed seeing all the guys with back protectors on while wearing tennis shoes that were half falling off and some not even with jeans on. Amazing these people are still alive. Come on, dress for the crash. I watch racers go down @ high speeds and walk away without a scratch, they have on gear.

To all the stunters have fun, but please dont try and piss off every last person in this city. If you are on the highway please do the speed limit even if riding a wheelie. Be safe riders.

Not at all, just dont understand the need to block off a highway to do some slow ass wheelies, either have the balls and bike to do a wheelie at highways speeds or dont. I have seen guys who know how to wheelie no problem at highway speeds.

Last night I saw a pack of bikes 20 plus cut off a big rig on the highway then slow him and the rest of the traffic down to 50 to get attention. Had the diesel driver ran his ass over I would have stopped to give the driver of the big rig my information to help him in court. I dont know that I would help the crushed as biker out because STUPID HURTS!

Now I have seen people doing stunts without cutting off big rigs and blocking the roadsway, by all means whatever rocks your boat. To do stunts you dont have to be an asshole is the point.

"If you cant pull a wheelie at 60-65 plus you need to learn to ride better "

That makes absolutely no sense.

People can complain all they want, but it's not going away. The hate only fuels the fire, so go right on fanning the flames.
