Don't care for it in the very least, but it looks like it was well executed.

which would you get?

first off this thread is about harleys so if you hate them strictly for that reason then don't bother reading anymore.

i will be buying a bike here in the next few weeks. i want a nightster but new they are a little over my budget, but i really like the iron 883 too. the msrp on the iron 883 is $7899 plus assembly, shipping, tax, title, license. my uncle bought a 07 nightster(1200cc) new and drove it for a couple years, adding pipes, intake, bars, forward controls and got the tank custom painted. he just traded his in for a new night train and they have his old bike for 10k. it has 10k miles on it.

if i get the iron i will be getting pipes, intake and probably forward controls on it, also maybe some bars. i know my uncle took real good care of his bike, so it's not like i just bought some random used bike.

i figure the price will be about the same when it's all said and done. should i buy a new one and put what i want on it? or buy a used one with all the mods i want already on it?

thanks for any input guys

Thats a tough one. I like both these bikes. But if I had to make a decision i would have to base it on the 30+ % more hp and the 50+% more tq the 1200 EVO produces over the 883 engine in stock form.

These are the demands and sayings of Duncan.

yea it's a sportster, but they are both pretty new models. the nightster came out in 07 and the iron in 09. i've checked out cycletrader(250 mile radius) and they have no used irons and one nightster for 8k in farmers branch but it is completely stock and not the color i want. it has the same amount of miles but like i said it's stock plus i have no idea how the previous owner took care of it

Just gonna let you know...that if you buy a sportster.....nobody will want to ride with you cause those are girls bikes...they are dinky and slow.
for all the money your going to spend...buy something a little older and stay away from the sportsters.

but now i know you are just one of those guys that thinks anything that isn't a sportbike is shit. you are no different than those harley guys that think anything that isn't a harley is shit. i'm sure you'll say something like well some of the cruisers are cool... but everyone knows it's 'sportbike or nothing' with you. i'm sure you don't give a shit about what i think, and now i don't give a shit about what you say when it comes to bikes. just my .02

NO actually Ive been wanting to sell my gsxr to get a Bobber. I love all bikes...but a sportster is a beginner bike. And im not one to buy a beginner bike...just learn to ride what you buy. Just like a ninja 250...everyone in the sportsbike world knows those bikes are for sissies or midgets. So dont think im knocking it cause its not a sports bike because thats not the case.

exactly, this will be my very first bike.

i have ridden a lot of bikes(sportbikes, big cruisers, sportsters) but only a few blocks or around the neighborhood so i have no real experience. that's why i will be getting a small bike. i might get sick of the size after a few months or first year, or i might keep it for a long time.

who knows

Im just telling you up front...you will regret buying a sportster. In a months time youll want a bigger bike thats more comfortable. Those bikes are short and cramped and it sticks your knees in your chest. I just tend to spend my money smart.....10k on a new sportster.....or 10k for a nice bobber, bagger, chopper? Which makes more sense?

I just got a VROd and love it. I have owned almost every bike under the sun and I am zero biased I love them all. That being said the 883 will not hold its value for nothing. One year and it will be worth 5-6k max. Times are hard right now and you can steal a Harley.

i have rode my uncles around the neighborhood and i did not feel cramped at all...it felt pretty good. i'm only 5'11'' and it has forward controls

I like the dyna's a bit more than the sportsters, the sportster looks too cramped up.

That being said, my father in law bought an 883 sportster, and promptly upgraded a year later to a Heritage Softail. He is like 5'6". Pick up whatever you want, have a good time, and enjoy yourself.

I am looking at bikes as well, but staying away from the expensive overpriced HD.

they have a deal going on now that if you buy a sportster you can trade it in a year for a big bike and get full value on your sportster

That would be a great reason to get a new one. You can put as many miles on it in the year with full return.

The Iron is a great bike as well as the Nightster. The best part is, they hold their value and if you feel like selling it later on you won't be way upside down. I love my Iron, and for around town it is ideal. My old man has a Heritage Softail and getting around town is so much easier on my bike. Don't listen to Bob sit there and talk about the riding position and all that shit. I'm 5'10 and fit very comfortably on the sportster, and don't even have forward controls. As far as power goes you already know it's not the most powerful bike out there, but for only being an 883 it shits and gets pretty well. It gets out of it's own way when you need it to, and if you need to drop a gear and go on the highway it's fine. I ride this bike damn near every day, and am no where near sick of it. It's a blast every time I get on it. Also as far as it being a "girls" bike I have more old guys come up to me and compliment my bike than I can even think of. Who cares what you're on as long as you're on 2 wheels, it's the insecure fucks like Bob that get all self conscious about being on a sportster.

I'll show your president the same respect you showed mine.

I'm right there with you Mike, I've been looking at the street bob & super glide as a possible first.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!
