Talking Back on 2 Wheels

After a 2.5 year break from bikes after being rear ended on my RC51, I picked up a brand new 2008 ZX10R from Grapevine Kawasaki last week. Lime green of course.

It feels awesome being on a bike again, can't wait to get some miles on this thing so I can see what it's got!

I'll post some pics once my exhaust and fender eliminator arrive

WOOT!

I have some kind of unhealthy fear of being rearended on my bike.
so paranoid I'm always looking behind me at lights.
hand on brake .... etc
I guess the only way this could be easier is if I had mirrors

79 K5 blazer, 6" lift 38x15" tires d44/12b lockers and chromoly axles ,6.2L GM diesel - Waste Vegetable Oil conversion - cross over steering,14"SAW nitrogen shocks, beefed shackles, shackle flip, winch/ bumpers, diff covers.

94 CBR 600 naked, handbraked, -1 +3 sprockets, one wheel operation mod

Dammit everybody is getting back on bikes again! IMO it won't ever replace the RC but it sounds like a nice bike Andy and glad to hear your back on two again. Can't wait to see the pics!

You gonna mount the license plate on this one......

That was the most priceless moment of that traffic stop when the cop asked for your plate and you reached in the trunk to get it.

I'd probably have to go with the RC51. It was something that you didn't see everyday and it had it's own sound that let you know exactly who was goosing the throttle.

Man, it won't be until next year at the earliest. Facing yet another financial setback here at work We need to do another motorcycle GTG somewhere so I can at least hang out with you guys and maybe throw a leg over someone's bike to help motivate me

Yeah, I'll be keeping a plate on this one

As far as the looks, I guess that's a personal thing. I think it's the best looking Japanese liter bike out there. Honda and Suzuki are out automatically, cause of their fugly three spoke wheels. And I've never had a Yamaha, this is my third Kawi.

I installed my exhaust and fender kit today, a bit louder than I was hoping but looks 10X better than the factory exhaust.

Now if only this rain would go away...

Sweet! I almost bought a black on a couple of month ago but decided on an M109R instead because the insurance was 3 times as much on the sport bike.

I'm having trouble finding the video, it's on zxforums, but it's real talk.

This guy is running 9.3s, and he is stock wheelbase. And I know the guy who ran the 8s had an air shifter, stretch and maybe a shot of nitrous. If you really want to see i'll find it later.

For those of you who like to take a country ride....

There is a place not to far off 67 on the other side of glenrose (west side) that is a great place to eat. I went there last weekend and there was approx 100 motorcycles out there. It is a restaurant called the Loco Coyote. The beer is cold and the food is damn good. At first glance of their menu I thought they were a tad pricey at 10.00 plus for a burger. When it came out, I realized I was wrong. You can't eat one of these burgers by yourself. (at least not with out wanting to throw up afterwards) They have a full range of items on the menu and every thing is damn good. It's out in the country with green pastures. It's worth the drive. Realistically any thing you order you could easily split between 2 people and not leave hungry. One guy got the LOCO Coyote Burger which had every thing on it. He looked like a beaver chewing on a redwood tree. This is half of a burger off the kid's menu

I have been there a few times.in the summer me and a few friends that have buggies we load up the wife's and go for a cruise down 67 into glennrose and we hit the county roads and we swing by there for a bite. The portions are gigantic then we cut back down 144 into granbury and then into joshua to home its a kick ass ride.

Earplugs - do ya use them?

Last couple of rides I've gotten off the bike after some highway riding and my hearing was definately affected. I haven't gotten comfortable with riding with the ipod yet - mountin bike, yeah - but not on the bike in traffic. Need my attention for other things right now

I tried some cheapy tethered plugs that I use at the range but they kept sqiggling out and that's a pain in the ass with a helmet on.

If you use them, what do you use? Cheapy or the form fit? Anyone use noise-cancellation plugs?

use the cheap sponge rubber type. They will stay in. I use them every now and then. It's still got a noise, but not near as bad.

So.....your saying you want to block out your hearing...on a motorcycle?

If i cant hear...i cant ride..i can tell when someones coming up behind me just by the sound. I cant even ride with an ipod because i need to hear everything around me..i just feel safer that way.

Wake up and smell the Taco

I use my mirrors like a girl who wants to get laid and I swivel my head like R2D2. My desire is to not ride in silence, just cut down the decibel level a bit.

When I get off the bike, I don't wanna be yelling "HUH?" when someone talks to me in a store or resturant. I certainly don't want my hearing any worse than it is.

I use my iphone for music while riding but i've noticed that as i ride i really don't listen to the music. I'm too busy paying attention to the road. But i've never really thought putting in ear plugs.

No plugs, no music. I want to be 100% aware of my surroundings at all times.

Fuck my hearing lol. Good excuse to ignore my wife down the road

I have never worn earplugs while riding, but my bike isnt very loud. I have rode with my mp3 player the last couple of weeks. It really doesnt affect my riding in the least. I have both mirrors and look over both shoulders constantly looking for those that may have creeped past my mirrors (it hasnt happened yet) and into a blind spot. I really should wear a helmet too, but I dont always.

Yes. There was a multi-year study performed in europe on motorcyclist of all types. Originally they were trying to discover if racers hearing was worse than normal riders. As it turned out the wind noise is far louder than the exhaust note and ALL riders suffered noticeable hearing loss after about 10 years give or take.

I started riding with an iPod in 2005? or so. At full blast I can't tell what song is even on at highway speed unless I tuck. So that should tell you how loud the wind noise is.

I wear an Arai which IMO isn't as quiet as a Shoei or AGV, but is quieter than most low end helmets.

I haven't seen a doctor, but a couple friends I ride with have pointed out that I can't hear shit. When I read about that study it explained the type of hearing loss the wind noise creates and it pretty much dead on described my hearing difficulties.

Basically when there is a lot of background noise I have trouble hearing certain frequencies that distinguish different words.

I've been wearing earplugs for a year, just cheap foam ones, hope it keeps it from getting worse.

Buy my 98 Civic 5spd - New A/C $2250 over 40mpg on the [email protected]
