2009 ZX-6R, all new

a while back I had been telling people that they'd probably redo the zx-6r to make it more angular than rounded like they did with the zx-10, and sure enough they did for the '09 model. turns out the dealer show was this weekend here in TX.

2008:

Use of lighter materials like magnesium case covers, lighter camshafts, lighter starter and a few minor weight saving treatments combine to pare away a few pounds. More importantly is that Kawasaki says they have made significant improvements to both bottom end and midrange power while smoothing out the delivery by implementing a couple tuner tricks to improve 'combustion efficiency'. The application of the 'double bore velocity stacks' is supposed to specifically help with midrange power as well. By incorporating a stack within a stack it should provide the benefits of multiple length stacks without employing variable length technology or some variation thereof. It will still utilize a slipper clutch and cassette-style 6-speed transmission. If these changes provide the significant boost that Kawi claims then it will address one of the issues we had with the 2007-2008 Ninja ZX-6R.

The previous ZX-6 was the heaviest of the current crop of Japanese super sports so we expect it to tip the scales at the 380-lb range, without fuel if the numbers pan out as advertised. A low-slung exhaust system, which locates the pre-chamber underneath the bike, will keep weight low and centralized.

Changes to the chassis include a 2-piece aluminum subframe that is narrow and light, a revised ram air intake casting that doubles as the support for gauges and mirrors in an effort to further reduce weight. Showa's new Big Piston Front (BPF) 41mm fork features a large-diameter internal piston, which is supposed to reducing the effects of damping pressure and eliminating the heavier internals found in cartridge-style forks. Kawasaki says this will improve frontend feel and decreasing turn-in effort. In addition to the new fork, steering geometry is altered significantly. This year the ZX features 24-degree rake and 4-inches of trail compared to 25-degree and 4.3-inches on the 07-08 model. Quicker steering, lighter weight and more power could put the 6R back in the hunt in the middleweight class comparisons. The same Ohlins steering stabilizer from the ZX-10 has found a home on the ZX-6R.

Kawasaki made it very important that the company's commitment to racing is an important part of the plan so expectations are high for the 2009 Ninja ZX-6R. It will be available in Lime Green, Metallic Black, Candy Blue, Flat Black and in Monster graphics with an MSRP of $9,799.

Damn. I bet that one with the Monster Energy graphics will be pretty bad ass. before you had to buy the graphics through a catalog.

A lot of people I hang out with didn't like the 07/08, but I really did. 09 is NOT good looking. Could be worse, it could look like the 1K RR.

Buy my 98 Civic 5spd - New A/C $2250 over 40mpg on the [email protected]

You guys would be surprised to see how many people want the Monster graphics on their bikes. I have gotten a handful of calls already and it they were just posted Saturday.

The Monster dirt bikes will be very popular too!

Kinda hard to form an opinion based on the one picture (and I Google'd and couldn't find anything better) but I like the looks from what I can see. The exhaust isn't exactly obnoxious and as long as the rear hugger can be easily dumped I'd probably pimp it.

Im sure the dirt bikes will. It just seems out of place on a streetbike unless it's some kind of race replica, like honda's Repsol CBR

Anyone know why they're going away from the undertail exhaust?

I personally like either the old school can (kinda like this new 09) or the undertail, but don't like what it seems they're doing here. Like the new 1kRR, it seems like it's something in-between, and I think it looks like crap.

I like the Buell approach, going under the bike for mass centralization and low COG, and I've seen others starting to go that way too. I guess the shorty Yamaha exhaust is a version of that, but I wonder if others will follow that lead?

Yep, I love the exhaust thats on the new R6, or the standard exhaust like the 04-05 10R. Not a huge fan of the undertail honestly. I enjoy having a trunk

You answered your own question, mass centralization. The muffler of the shorty "side" exit exhausts is actually centrally underneath the bikes for the most part depending on which bike you are looking at.

Go to a bike night or two and listen to a few on the same bike that you have. Do not go for the D&D unless all you want is loud.

M4 is local and I hear sometimes they sell blemished products at a great discount. Might be worth checking into, there off of Harry Hines in Dallas.

Good suggestion by OC.

You can't go wrong with Yoshi.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

Well finally it runs...the dirt bike!!

Finished putting the motor back together yesterday and got it fired up tonight
Lotsa smoke...guess thats normal for a 2 stroke. Seems quite a bit faster than it was prior to the piston seizing in the cylinder which makes me think it was already losing compression. I'm happy

Sat, November 1st ride.

Saturday, a few of my buddies were planning on taking a ride for a while. Figure I would see if anyone from here would like to attend. We have not made a decision about where we will go yet, but would like to make it a fairly longer ride. Maybe out to the hard 8 ranch for bbq (jose I need to know exactly where that it plz) and out to dublin, maybe some other spots. If you would like to go and have any input, feel free to let me know. It is supposed to be in the 80's on sat, so should make for a nice ride.

Its a 90' Suzuki RMX250 2 smoke. It has an RM250 head which bumps the compression slightly, an FMF Fatty exhaust, Boyesen power reed and a headlight/taillight. Basically an RM250 motocross bike with lights.
