back when bates was open, they used to sell some kind of cream that you'd shake around inside and it would seal off the rust. i did it to my old dirtbike like 15 years ago and its still fine. can't remember the name of it, though.

RIP to the two kids from last night

I have ridden home countless times from work and have taken the same ramp. I just have to wonder what the whole story was. If you carry any kinda of speed over that ramp i could see something bad happening. My bike has gotten loose b/c the pavement is poured in sections and there is a little bump where each section meets.

Anyways, RIP to the riders. God be with their families!

http://wbap.com/Article.asp?id=873045&spid=18042

Irving (WBAP) - Two teenagers died, after their motorcycles collided. It happened in Irving, on the ramp from State Highway 161 to westbound State Highway 183.

According to investigators, the bikes were on the elevated ramp when one of them went out of control. It hit the retaining wall on the side of the ramp. The second bike ran into the back of the first one. The rider of the first bike was thrown off the ramp and to the ground 40 feet below. 18 year old Derek Smith of Bedford died at the scene.

The rider of the second bike, identified as 18 year old Robert Wright of North Richland Hills, was taken to Baylor Hospital of Irving. He died there a short time later.

It happened around 10:30 PM Thursday night. No other vehicles were involved.

I have been on that ramp a bunch of times in my car, and if you come in with alot of speed it throws you all around.

Yup. At the exit of that ramp, if you're in the right spot, there's a slight dip and it will load the suspension. If you're driving like an ass and close to losing grip anyway, the unloading can definitely catch you off guard. I've seen more than one car in the wall right there.

I take it home every day. Rarely, but every chance I get, I take it at 80. Sounds like they got into each other. That sucks, RIP.

I see black marks all along the outside edge of that ramp. Maybe the state should do something about it with all the fucking revenue they collect from the tolls?

I tend to take it much faster in my Mustang than my Impala.

It is fun at 80.. I won't take it that quick with other cars around though.

Shit 40 feet - ouch.

I'm not saying they were hauling ass, but before you go blasting down a road or around a corner it's good to have gone through it a few times and know what to expect. There are a lot of fucked up spots in dfw that will put you on your ass if you hit them wrong. Shit, there are plenty of "dips" going straight on 161 just north of 183 that will get a bike in the air at speed.

I've met a lot of younger guys out riding with people I know in that area lately, hope it wasn't one of those guys.

RIP guys. I went out to the bike night at Hooters yesterday. I'd imagine they started out from there. Very sad to think out of those ~100 riders that showed up, 2 didnt ever get home.

RIP. It is a risk we take every time. Everytime I get on the bike the fear of that being me next is in the back of my mind. I just really hate to see that they were so young. Prayers sent out to the family.

I did not mean that is what i am thinking about when i ride. I love too ride and will not stop. I am just saying that there is always a part of me that thinks about how dangeous it is and how easy it is to die on bike. That fear usually helps me control my adrenaline. Of coarse not always. I am not scared to ride, but I do think a little bit of fear when riding is not a bad thing.

yeah, I used to do that same treck sometimes when coming back from Carrollton and never noticed anything. my thoughts are they were inexperienced for the speed they were probably going and the first guy's rearend came out around the turn.
They were coming home from the big bike night at Hooters in Grapevine most likely. one of my coworkers sent me a message at 2am this morn saying two guys in the group she was riding with went down doing stunts after the meet, and so she wouldn't be able to make it to work in the morn. she said one guy 12 0 clocked a wheelie and went all the way over, getting rashed up and the other guy washed out and totaled his bike.

gear is only good for skin injuries! jesus christ a full body suit made of bubblewrap and whale blubber wouldn't have saved these 2 dumbasses lives.

they were on the 102.1 the edge 'bike night' ride with a shitton of other squids.

not saying they deserved it, at all.. but they obviously weren't very fucking smart.

I was at Hooters too and when Patrick Stephens said " OK 15 more minutes until we take over the streets." I knew it was time to get the hell out of there.. I've riden with him in a small group before and he rides like a jack ass. I knew that with him doing that shit and all the other squids that were at Hooters.. SOMETHING bad was going to happen.

RIP to those guys though.. I take that turn every morning from Carrollton to Arlington and usually take it at 80... everyone is right though... if you aren't paying attention there are 2 places in there that will mess you up.

Thats sad to here about these young guy's i can only assume one was trying to rail the corner lost control while his buddy from behind "Target Fixated" and went off right with him. I dunno kinda seems that way, rumor is one of the guy's just got the bike and hadn't been riding that long.

I dunno the problem w/ sportbike crowd IMO is that its all "EGO" that get the best of these guy's ive seen countless guy's get a bike and want to hang w/ the big dawgs and ride well beyond there limits and eat it hard. It almost seems like they buy a BIKE and all the sudden they think they have to look COOL and act Cool and Ride beyond there abilitys, some are lucky too learn from minor accidents and some are very unfortunate and dont make it.

Thats the reason i got off the street and do mainly Trackdays seen and almost been killed by some of these squids showing there ass blowing 2ft from you over 100mph.

RIP to these guys sad day so young.

We live about 200 yards away from 161, about two miles north of that ramp. My wife was putting some trash out last night right about 10:30 PM and she heard them, headed south and wide open. When she saw the news this morning she realized it was probably them.

Them kids get so aggressive with them so soon that they really don't understand how much power those bikes put out until it's too late. I know, b/c I was one of them crazy kids that went from a 125cc dirtbike to a gixxer 750 and tried to man handle it and went road surffing for 690ft. Luckily, I got away with 2 days in the hospital and grew some common sense and know when it was time to back off. It's sad to hear of these stories but wish these youngsta's will learn to set some boundaries and learn to let off when it's getting to be too much. Even if you don't win, you still get to race again another day. who knows what them kids could of grown up to accomplish, it is real sad to hear these stories. maybe this event will save others from making the same mistake. Best of wishes to family & friends.

anyone know what bikes they rode? .... i was in the car heading to the car dealership across the street from hooters and came across 2 morons heading out to the gtg over there around 6:30is in heavy traffic lane splitting like to other and riding wheelies 5ft from everyones back bumper. I always enjoy seeing someone doing a stand up going down the highway but the way the were doing it and how heavy traffic was, it was rediculous. After seeing that it made me realize why someone in a silver ford explorer from the other thread would aim to run bikes over....

I always enjoy seeing someone doing a stand up going down the highway but the way the were doing it and how heavy traffic was, it was rediculous. After seeing that it made me realize why someone in a silver ford explorer from the other thread would aim to run bikes over....

I heard one of them had been riding for about 6 weeks and the other less than a week. Supposedly he had only been out on it a couple times. I doubt it was them.
