Went riding and learned a new wheelie! PICS INSIDE

Well this is my first bike and have been riding about 5 months now. All I have been doing is just some 2nd gear sitdowns and just kinda practiced those until i got comfortable with it. Well I wanted to learn a knee in the seat wheelie so I met up with a buddy of mine to go ride and he taught me how to do knee in the seat. At first I could not even get the front wheel up at all. It was disappointing. Then after a few pointers and about 20 minutes later this is what I got. Power them up in 2nd is the best way I found to do them. Easy on the clutch and its not all that hard to get them up. Here are some pics.

Nice, wish I could get up the nerve to try that shit. I guess I need to get with some people who know how to ride standups to get some pointers.

are you balancing those out or just running it throught the gears?? you may wanna put your other knee in the seat, and ge that right leg down over the brake...

the 636 has a sweeet balance point...but once your past it, your past it.

I just power it up in second gear. I don't think I can do it with the other foot. It feels wierd. I usually just let the motor bring the front wheel down. I just let off the gas a little and it acts like a brake kinda. I haven't ridden them very long since I just started so havn't had much practice.

I tried another first gear wheelie after coming home Thursday night from Moe's. I lifted the front up this time but, only like 4 inches. hahahaha

with a 1k, you dont need to do the on/off/on method like you may read...just ru it up to about 6k, and roll the throttle. at least MY 1k will do it

My 636 is pretty stout down low for a 600. I take it up to about 9k and roll back on the bike a little while i give it a hand full and up she goes! But of course it isn't as easy as your gixxer 1k.

Yeah but, I don't wanna pick up all that speed if I don't have to. I'd much prefer to shock it and get it up. At least in theory. I"m just a squid, trying to survive in the sea.

LoL...just like being on two wheels though, the faster you are going, the more stable it is. so wheelying at 65mph, is alot easier to control than wheelying at 25mph, ya know? if anything start clutching them up in 2nd from ~30, thats a good learning spot

I found that 1st gear wheelies are much harder to do then 2nd gear. When I first got my bike I thought it would be the other way around.

The only reason I'm trying to do this is because I think that it would benefit me to get used to the front being up. I wanna get into track days on a road course and I don't want that to be the first time I feel the front come up. I wanna train my Survival Reactions. Thanks for the pointers, I don't know if I wanna start clutching up, plus my second gear is ruined anyway.

It is ALOT safer to do that with your right foot down in case you were to have an oh shit moment and needed to get that front wheel down ASAP using the rear brake. Front brakes won't do shit when they're in the air. Not saying that's how you need to do it. Just saying it's safer.

Yeah I can see how it would be safer. I might give it a try but its kinda like being left handed or right handed. If you are right handed you aren't going to write with your left hand. It just feels comfortable like that I it feels like I can balance better.

Practice always helps. Like you said earlier, you couldn't do it at first but then after some practice you had no trouble. Give a shot, you never know you may end up liking it the other way.

I downshift to second at about 60 and roll on the throttle slowly while in full tuck and the front end drifts up. Third will also come up pretty easily if I sit straight up and go WFO.

Strap Rich's big head onto the nose. You can make 750hp. That front end will NEVER come up.

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.
