San Antonio Raceway Park

Went to the races at SARP this past Saturday night. There were a lot of Dallas cars there. There was a "Checker Board Decorated" car there that really strapped it on a really fast car from Houston. If I remember, it was a Camaro with black and white checker board design painted on the front fenders and doors. Really went quick and straight. Since it was a grudge race, no times were posted. Does anyone know what that car runs on the 1/8th and the quarter ?

Checkerboard Car

I did not hear a name, only that he was down from Dallas. All I know was that the car was strong, and he knew how to drive it. It ran straight as an arror.

Kenny Barnes old car

They offered a one run challange to anyone there. They said they had only one NOS bottle. Someone from Houston answered the challange and made som really big claims. The Dallas car blew him away big time.

Mike Murillo was there with his twin turbo 10 1/2" car, but he only made 1 1/8 mile pass. He turned I think 4.1 and was only on it for about a second. The Pro set up car that ran with him turned a 3.4 and 186, but he could stay in his with the big tires. I would have liked to see them run a heads up for a full quarter. They announced that Murillo was running low 6's in the quarter on the little tires.

I wanted to stay and watch some more of the Pro Mod cars run. I really wanted to see Murillo run again. There was a really neat 46 Chevy truck that looked like a street car that turned 10.20 . That brings back memories of the old "Gas" classes. But, I guess most on this site are too young to remember "Gassers". Now I'm telling my age for sure. Anyone remember Ohio George Montgomery and his Willys ?
