Local F/A racer Killed in accident

I am so sorry to be posting this. One of our very best has succumbed to injuries suffered in a crash, Saturday night, at the Fuel Altered World Finals at Eddyville raceway in Iowa. This is a note from our Outlaw Fuel Altered Association leadership:

"We are saddened to report our friend Tim Hay, crashed in the final round of a race in Eddyville, Iowa on Saturday night, and has died from injuries sustained in that crash. Eyewitnesses reported the car was on a good run and about 300' smoked the tires, went sideways and ran head on into the guardrail, rolling several times. Tim was a big part of our group and a friend to all who knew him. We will miss his enthusiasm for life and great sense of humor. This is a note we wish we would never have to write.

We will get back to you when we know more.

Bobby and Nancy"

The brief time that I knew Tim, he proved to me that you can have a very successful racing effort, be the family man that every one of us wants and needs to be, and still have plenty left over for life in general. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him. My prayers go out to his family, and please make them parts of yours, too.

Tim Hay - Rest In Peace!

I have noticed alot of the time people just latch the harness and do not adjust them to fit properly, due to lack of comfort.

I'm not saying this was the case here but it does happen.

91 Coupe, off road h, underdrive pulleys, short belt with a/c, electric fans and 3.73s. 3060lbs. Daily driven 20mpg average.

Yes you did, they were wanting to match race us during BHRA, but we could not get rod's and crank back in time. Hate that we missed that final opportunity to run high voltage hayride

I was actually about to post about this, as I found out first thing Sunday since I work with his daughter, Kristen. Very sad indeed and I hope the best for their family.

Do you mind me asking who/what car and when? Just curious.

Terrible deal about Tim, he would come out to TXR and test on Wed. I really enjoyed it, and will miss him.

I read on YB that the chassis broke in half right in front of the funny car cage like John forces wreck and those pics pretty much confirm that. Such a sad situation but at least he died doing what he loved. I would much rather go while blasting down the 1/8th mile then get killed in a wreck on the hwy or worse yet a slow death from cancer.

RIP Tim

safety tech for drag racing has always been almost non existent, to keep certifying chassis for 2938472347 years is fucking lame, and i've yet to see anybody check for proper seat belt mounting.

Let me see if I can find a picture of one of a well known chassis builders car where the seat belt mounts were on little tabs. I am noway say this was the issue, but even if it was the issue it wouldnt have mattered.

Well the picture was removed, but it was a Tim McAmis chassis and the tabs were tacked to the floor. It was in Ray Commissio's car. After I pointed it out, the car was sent back for repair, The very next race he flipped the car and the belts remained intact to the chassis! I actually received a call from him thanking me for pointing it out.

I will say the ADRL has stepped up their safety requirements, 7 point harness, EjectHelmet Removal System, Pour-in seat foamed with energy absorbing material , Lateral helmet supports.

All of these will be required for 2011
