New GT runs 9.3's in the 1/8

There was a 2011 GT at Redline tonight running 9.3's. It was an automatic. The weather sucked tonight. I ran 8.3's in the 07 vette, its ran a best of 8.16. What I found strange is the guy couldnt get better than a 2.3 sixty foot dead hooking. He tried leaving off idle, stalling a little, and stalling it high.

If he is running 9.30's in a 2011 GT and the best you could muster up out of an 07 Corvette is an 8.10, neither one of you can drive. What you are saying is that my 285 horsepower Cobalt is faster than the 2011 Mustang GT and only a few tenths slower than your Corvette. TO even make that statement possible, serious driver error must be involved.

but your cobalt is also "heavily modified" and weighs a shit ton less...lets compare apples to apples here...thats like saying my MS3 will out run that GT...you throw a turbo on that GT and its game over for me...just saying...

A Cobalt SS is listed at 2900 lbs., so the weight issue is HUGE. Also, it was 100 degree's outside, and a stock '11 Mustang won't be at it's best in that kind of heat.

I'm sure the 100 degree heat and maybe driver mod issues came into play. 9.30s-9.40 is what my '00 automatic ran bone stock. Putting down 226 rwhp.

So, I wouldn't put too much stock in this "'11 GT" you saw running 9.30s.

My car bone stock and street tires ran 9.3 and with drag radials 8.9.

2005-09 mustang run 8.6-8.8.

So 2011 with 6speed auto, 3:73 gears and 400hp is slower?

No. P

91 Coupe, off road h, underdrive pulleys, short belt with a/c, electric fans and 3.73s. 3060lbs. Daily driven 20mpg average.

All stock 91 coupe. Stang' Bangin'

2006 supercharged Chevy Cobalt SS weighs 2990lbs. I have 285 horsepower.
My power to weight ratio 10.49 to 1. For every horsepower I make, I must support 10.49 lbs.

2007 Chevy Corvette Coupe (we will assume) weighs 3179lbs and makes 400 horsepower. Power to weight ratio is 7.94 to 1

2011 Ford Mustang GT coupe weighs 3483 and makes 412 horsepower. Power to weight ratio is 8.45 to 1.

Even with my weight advantage, both of those cars have far superior power to weight ratios and therefore should turn better times even with the weather conditions. As stated previously, the car is not the issue. The driver's are.

9.30's was the best I could get out of it. I knew the car felt like a turd box when I left the dealership.

I didnt want to do the whole 6000 rpm neutral rev drop. Sounded cool, but it only has 167 miles as of the last pass last night.

Who wants to race?

Okay, now there is more to the story. The car only has a little over 100 miles on it. It does not belong at the track then anyway. It still needs to be broken in.

The one from last night is 100% stock. The guy said it had a 3:21 gear in it. I still dont get why it wouldnt pull better than a 2.3 sixty ft dead hooking. He said he was running with the traction control off. I was really expecting to see a mid to high 8. All three passes I saw were 9.3's. The one time slip I looked at was 78mph. He said he was getting some baseline #'s before he started modding it. Maybe ososlows buddy has 3:73 gears

Yes, just like your 1/4 mile time is about 5 tenths slower than what it should be... under ideal conditions of course.

The V8 auto's have 3.15 gears standard equipment. The V8 manuals have 3.31 gears standard equipment. The track pack option is 3.73s. The V6 cars have 2.73 gears standard equipment with an upgrade option to 3.31

If it was running 9.30s and trapping only 78 mph....it was the 305 hp 3.7L V6 model. The guy you were talking to doesn't know his ass from a hole in the wall.

The guy obviuously doesnt know what he talking about on the gears. If that car was a V6 its running pretty good in crappy weather. My guess would be that just like all the other performance cars, some of the new GT's will run great track times and some will not. Next time I'll get video

I would be willing to bet it was a V6. Perhaps he put GT badges and stuff on it. That's pretty sad if it was was indeed a GT.

Do you guys think that a regular gear head doesn't know the difference between a 6 and 8 cylinder car?

This is great, a car runs slower then the three that are fast an all the sudden it's a v6? Lol

I idolize a pile of garbage that can't stay together causing a 3 alarm fire? Not a chance, Ms. Daisy.

I'll add as many adjectives as it takes. Your logic is weak as always, Ms. Daisy.

BTW, I saw a brand new 1993 Z28 run mid 15's at Ennis all day long. Want to rub one out on that one too?

What did the guy look like?
