I think China should just open their gates, and let 50 million or so Chinese invade that steaming piece of dung! I'm beginning to think I wouldn't piss on the rest of the world if it was on fire!

lol, so true. I wouldn't even be surprised if China developed SARS, fucked up, and it got out.

I think Kim Jong II just wants to see a nuclear blast. I hope he sees one of ours before one of his.

Trey, I hope you're right. AIDS has a 20 year head start...SARS has been around three weeks. Both are viruses, and they have yet to cure AIDS. Between SARS, AIDS, and plain ol' starvation, China is like that goat at a Greek wedding....SCREWED!

Maybe, maybe not.

I don't hear of any hospitals being closed down and 2000 hospital employees going under observation because of AIDS.

well.. if you look at the stats... the flu kills more people daily.. (there is technically no cure for the flu or any virus)

I found a cool website a a week or two ago.. ill try and post up. had stats of sars, compared to flu, aids and a few other common diseases.

it made sars look like well.. nothing really. but i could be wrong.. im not saying im definatly right.. just think it is a hype right now... nothing more.

thanks

The report from the CDC yesterday was that 1 in 20 people die from SARS.

Someone with HIV can live years before getting full blown AIDS and even then with medication can live quite long.

Someone with SARS can die in a week.

The method which SARS is spread is not entirely known which helps with a big fear factor. It is known that it can be spread by touch but they aren't sure if it can go airborne.

SARS is mutating at a very rapid rate.

Yea there is a lot of hype, but there is SOME good reasons for it.

SARS is relatively new. At the moment, 5.9% of the SARS cases result in death. What is the figure for the flu? Not being a smart ass, I don't know the figure.

Wrong thread

This is the one about nuclear war. Not SARS.

Of all the countries in the world, this is the one I have been worried about for a while now. The Middle East is a joke compared to what could happen with N. Korea. Thier military has been ready to fight for many years now.

This is a military that will fight back with all means necessary.

You are right, GTek. Sorry for hijacking your thread.

I consider the North Korea situation the most significant post-Cold War any administration has faced. Not only are they are they wielding the nuclear stick, but they've said they could very well export them as well.

I've also read that the Pentagon hardliners are behind a plan to "precision" bomb North Korea's nuclear facilities and that they believe it would not lead to North Korea starting a war.

Pretty big assumption.

At least if we do go to war with N. Korea, it won't just be Americans on the front lines. Either way, I think the US wins on the N. Korea issue.

1. If the N. Koreans give in, they will have to disassemble their nuclear reactors and anything that can be used in the future as bargaining tools. We'll probably end up sending more aid if this happens, but it's not like we don't already send a crapload of aid to the rest of the world.

2. If N. Korea starts a war, then the US won't look like an aggressor, but merely defending S. Korea. Can you say regime change? I believe S. Korea will take the hit on casualties, the US will take the hit more on cost.

Either way, it will lead to eliminating this threat.

On a side note, if we end up going to war with N. Korea...I think it will be very long and bloody, it won't be a cakewalk. Even if most of N. Koreas million man active army (6-7 million reserves?) isn't really trained that well, the asian armies have been known to fight tooth and nail.

If I lived in Seoul, I'd move
