Yea, I read that today. It is really crazy that no one knows where it came from.

Crazy and scary.

Nah, i already saw it.

The Navy was testing a new bunker buster warhead on a Tomahawk, it was launched out of San Diego.

The Missile Defense Agency told Fox News it did not launch any test missile last night that could explain the dramatic images. The Navy and the Air Force were also unable to offer an explanation.

If it is something secretive I wonder why they wouldn't just wait until it got dark to launch it?

Some kid bundled a bunch of Estes rocket motors together and launched a pipe. Nothing to see here, move along.

Maybe it wasn't us. I understand it came from offshore. It is possible someone is just making a display of power letting off a missile to let Bama know they can get that close.

That would be interesting because there are a limited number of countries with submarine launching abilities.

Yep, the US, Russia, China, Britain, and France to be exact.

India is working on it but isn't expecting to go operational for a while.....

Aviation Week's coverage is here:
http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/blogs...entId=blogDest

Their latest update:
Quote:
1446 Eastern: NORAD statement: "NORAD and USNORTHCOM are aware of the unexplained contrail reported off the coast of Southern California yesterday evening. At this time, we are unable to provide specific details, but we are working to determine the exact nature of this event. We can confirm that there is no threat to our nation, and from all indications this was not a launch by a foreign military. We will provide more information as it becomes available." Note that nothing in this statement says that it was not a US government launch - it says that NORAD is "unable to provide details", not that it does not have them.

There is a NOTAM making that area off limits for flying due to Navy activities but it was written for tonight, not last night when this occurred.

Quote:
A2832/10 - THE FOLLOWING RESTRICTIONS ARE REQUIRED DUE TO NAVAL AIR WARFARE CENTER WEAPONS DIVISION ACTIVATION OF W537. IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY, ALL NON-PARTICIPATING PILOTS ARE ADVISED TO AVOID W537. IFR TRAFFIC UNDER ATC JURISDICTION SHOULD ANTICIPATE CLEARANCE AROUND W537 AND CAE 1176. CAE 1155 WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR OCEANIC TRANSITION. CAE 1316 & CAE 1318 WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR OCEANIC TRANSITION. CAE 1177 WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR OCEANIC TRANSITION. W537 ACTIVE, CAE 1176 CLOSED. SURFACE - FL390, 09 NOV 20:00 2010 UNTIL 10 NOV 01:00 2010. CREATED: 08 NOV 20:52 2010

I have been following a couple of NASA forums and some of the guys there (some of whom actually work for NASA) think there was a staging event towards the end of the flight. That would make it an ICBM (or SLBM) of some sort or perhaps an ABM/ASAT (anti balistic missile / anti satellite) but that is all just speculation.. One guy suggested that if they could see the entire video they might be able to determine the launch vehicle by the length of the 1st stages burn time.

Sure does look like a Trident II to me. If that is what it was, the Navy would not confirm it anyway.

So if its a Trident, where the hell was its destination? And do they have a disarming feature in mid flight?

Who knows? I am just guessing. They were just talking about it on TV about being trails from an airplane, yeah right. Airplane trails don't squiggle like that and your standard airplane wont have a glowing/twinkling red engine at the front of said trail.

Its our govmts missile and it was either a mistake or supposed to be secret. That's my take anyways.

Assuming this was a sub launch, I wonder if it is possible that this was some test that wasn't supposed to be revealed to the public and was supposed to go off at night. But, because of the time change, the jerk off in charge of scheduling set it to go off in daylight hours instead, IE, instead of moving the clock back one hour for fall, he moved it ahead one hour.

I have no idea how they do things on a Navy boat but after watching the President Bush interview last night and having him talk about how the phone system on Air Force One is a piece of shit, I am thinking just about anything is possible.

Don't ICBM need a launch code and two keys to fire? How do you accidentally launch a Trident II ICBM???

Interesting none the less. It's certainly military whatever it is. It's been too long for them to admit it was a mistake now, it would look even worse to keep people in the dark that long. It will probably fade into obscurity in the upcoming weeks.

Well, any missle launched anywhere in the world is tracked, so they know.

Just saw the news, the gubment is now saying it was a plane. I call BS, doesn't look like a plane to me, and I would think that aircraft control would account for that immediately.

I saw some jack ass on Good Morning America saying it was a plane. Bullshit, the thing was going straight up and the trail behind it was bigger than any contrail from a plane. Someone is full of shit.

They know what it is, that's why they are trying to pass it off as a fucking plane. Millions of fucking sheep are going to believe that and go about their daily lives. That ain't no fucking plane. I say sub launch, not sure if it's ours or their's but our Government feels it's best we don't know more than we already know.

If it's ours why keep it secret, there are videos on youtube.

If it's theirs' I can see why we wouldn't want to "alarm" the American sheep.

What the fuck am I, as an individual supposed to do? Drive to California, put on some scuba gear and look around for something in the waters off of LA? Maybe go and knock on the door of to Pentagon and demand some answers?

Us sheeple are too busy to get our knickers in a twist about stuff like this. Would I like to know what it is? Sure, but anything short of an alien spacecraft with Emilia Earhart on board is going to be disappointing.

If it was N Korea, that would make perfect sense. "We raunch peoples missile at Ros Angereeez, but we have to get velly crose". It comes out of the water and goes the wrong direction (away from LA).
Now it all adds up.

It looked like a missile launch, he said, because of an optical illusion that made the contrail appear as though it started on the ground and zoomed straight up. In reality, he said, the contrail began on the horizon and ran parallel to the ground.

"It was an unusually clear day," he said. So what looked like a missile launch 35 miles off the coast of Los Angeles was actually the contrail of a jet that stretched 300 miles into the distance, he said. "At the end of the day, you really have to go with the simplest explanation," he added.

I heard that jack off say that.

Plausible until you see the clip where the object is actually moving. If the contrail were stretching across the horizon like he says then because of the perspective the object in question would have to be going a hell of a lot faster than any plane ever could. Hell, watch the first fifteen seconds of the original clip above where you can see the object moving and estimate how fast it would be going based on the perspective of the contrail stretching over the horizon. It would have to be going almost as fast as a meteor.

Don't worry, you will be eating dog food soon enough!

It was flight 808 from LAX to Hawaii, you were looking at a contrail, lol. The following day at the same time the exact same flight left again with an identical contrail. All this shit over something so dumb.

Ya...right !

And all the other LAX west bound departures left no contrail......ya...that's it...
I'm sure it was just that one flight.....probably had the engines set to too rich of a mixture....ya, ya, ...that's it !
Those jets have mixture adjustments in the cockpit .....don't they ???

Or .......maybe it was water injection.....ya that's it ....water injection...ya that's the ticket !

Okay as someone that has been on a Trident submarine.... I can assure you there is no way to accidentally launch a missile from a US sub.

That said, there is no way that is a freakin' airplane.

That said, the US missile test range is not off the coast of Los Angeles either. I'm not going to say where it is, but it isn't anywhere even remotely close to LA at all.

It is routine for Trident submarines to fire test missiles as part of their continual training and readiness as well. It is a scheduled event that takes place at the appointed time and location far away from prying eyes too.
