LMAO @ the French!

They're planning on raising the age of retirement, because they already can't fund the retirees they have, and high school students are protesting? Seriously, LMMFAO @ these French students:

But we already know that our "social security" won't come close to taking care of us after retirement. That's why we plan ahead and not riot with a bunch of ignorant school kids about having to work a couple years more to get their gubment check.

Yea ok. Like the election coming up here in a few weeks isn't "taking action".

I don't really want anyone to care that much about politics in this country. Mainly because there are a lot more dirtbags who can vote themselves a handout than anyone else.

It is if you are going to suck off the government tit like a fucking leech. In heavily socialized countries like Greece and France you get to retire with the government paying 80-90% of your salary until you die.

The best part is that taxes are high as fuck over there and the government still doesn't have enough money. I bet they say if they could just get a few more dollars, all problems would be solved. lol

Americans do not do stuff like this because we have to work for a living, who in this country would have time to do something like this on a tuesday?

I do understand why they are mad, and it is related to jobs, unemployment among the youth of France is very high, if less people are retiring then less people are being hired.

I really don't see why we even fucking have social security. I mean do we really need to pay old people to live? Stop taxing them and that would cut a chunk out of their living expenses. Just let them fend for themselves or let their families take care of them. Then, no social security entitlement program. Simple.

I don't have a problem with the concept of social security. But I do have a problem with the federal government turning it into the world's largest Ponzi scheme because they have spent the excess funds.

It is a great example why you can't trust government. I also have to wonder why it is my job to replenish a fund that they decided to raid 20 years before I was born. I would gladly sign away all my right to social security today if they would stop taking the 6% out of my paycheck in the name of my well being. They can keep what they have stole from me already.

Remember now, this was and is, GOVERNMENT mandated. People have paid their hard-earned money into that turd for their entire working lives. When social security was started in the late '30's, life expectancy was under 60. It was not meant to be a "retirement pension", but more of an aid for the elderly. Now that folks can live into their 80's, it's clearly breaking the bank.

Exactly. All their lives, they have had to live with the consequences of their mistakes. Why does that have to stop just because they reach a certain age? I don't think we need to take care of them. We would probly help them a lot more by making them take responsibility and prepare themselves.

The French are so dependant on their government masters, they can't see that they would be better off self reliant and not slaves. They don't even realize that they are slaves.

Longer life and smaller paying population vs withdrawing (retire-ees) is breaking it. That's the problem with tax based welfare systems. They create them with the false sense that the tax base always grows. Obviously, this is not the case. I'm with AL P on this. Take my money that you took from me already, but let me keep the rest starting now.

What's sad is, if that 6% was mandated to go into PRIVATE stock/mutual funds instead of the government slush fund, nearly everybody would retire as millionaires and even have money to give to their family when they die.

Everytime someone brings that up in Congress, the Democrats start crying all over the TV saying the Republicans want to privatize social security.

So if people are living longer, its only fair to extend the age of retirement, correct? Make it age 70 now. Then in 30 years, make it age 80. One day when people are living to 150 years old (which they say is going to happen) make the age of retirement, age 135. Simple concept, I don't see what the big problem is. The govt over there should just do what needs to be done.

What would be so wrong with privatizing social security? I'd like to see just about damn near everything privatized. Regulated to keep the people running it in check of course, but still privatized.

Also, basically a person should put 6% of their income every year into an IRA? Is that a good way to prepare for retirement? Would you still be able to like... take yearly vacations and tour the US and stuff? you seem to be pretty financially minded so i just thought i'd ask.

It is my opinion that social security should be abolished. The government can't be trusted to run a retirement plan.

On the 6%, the exact number is 6.2%. Your employer matches that, so there is 12.4% going in there. Anyone could retire on that. But, thanks to our wonderful federal government, that money just evaporates into thin air.

I say the sooner the whole thing collapses, the better. Medicare is fine, shit that is 2%, that's nothing. But save for your own fucking retirement, it isn't the government's job.
