Some people are happy when their homes' values drop, because they save on taxes. But...it also takes revenue away from the state, too. So along with the drop in retail sales, etc., the tax revenue from tax assessments is also decreased.

Oh no, we are going to have to stop spending. I just don't know what we will do. I'm tired of seeing these crying fucking politicians who steal from people and talk out of both sides of their mouth.

Reading through that whole thing was interesting. 2 parts stuck out to me...

1. I hate the fact that citizens pay taxes for one purpose (which is debatable if I agree with in the first place - in regards to the utility portion and the state just willy nilly spends it on whatever they want...

2.

Generally speaking, I feel this has happened and is happening on all levels of government.

I have a perfect example of what you are talking about.

Out here in san diego they are having to brown out and rotate the fire stations that are open, and are trying to pass a sales tax to pay for more police/fire people, all the while painting dire pictures of having to lay off even more police/firemen.

Meanwhile, plans are going forward to build a new stadium for the chargers downtown

Exactly. Thank God we have to have a balanced budget here in Texas, otherwise we would be in just as bad of a position as the assholes in California. These idiot politicians would borrow, borrow, borrow.

Third, Texas used about $6 billion in federal stimulus funds to balance its current budget. That money put off the state’s obligation to deal with its shortfall until this year.
Huh? The republican dominated state legislator used the democrat dominated federal government to cover their butts last year. Before an election year too. Boy, politicians got it going on.

Please consider how much money our state SENDS to D.C. We get back a small percentage of that. Can you say,"Taxation without representation"? Barry denied sending us federal money for education because of state policies regarding test scores and free meals in schools. The money we got from uncle O'barry is OUR money.

Property taxes are insane in this state. People literally get raped at a rate much higher than income tax as a percentage to their income.

Maybe while they are cutting back they should consider a cap on property taxes?

Aside from the whole breakdown of federal money coming out of Texas....

How do test scores and free meals in schools affect the holdup of the money from the US Dept of Edu? Not a challenge question, just looking into this issue. I see the stuff from U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett and State Fiscal Stabilization Funds, how does that tie in?

The federal government uses that money to control what the states do. The states have to do what the feds say or they don't get the money.

It works the same way with federal highway funds and the horseshit that the EPA pushes.

Personally I think it should be outlawed.

Along with what Al said, Texas is suing the feds for $830 million they are holding out because the state won't commit to spending at least that amount from now on! Once you commit to that kind of federal money, as AL put it, they have you by the balls.

What party is the majority and what party is the governor since all of the budget problems started?

And you wonder why the budget is fucked up.

The FACTS are the budget went to shit under 100% republican control.

Just as it did when the last republican gov from Texas ran this country.

You missed my obvious point.

If you look at the American way and a guy that makes $100k in turn buys a $400k house he's looking around $12k in property tax, or 12% of his income that can't be itemized. So saying that texans don't pay income tax doesn't hold true for property owners. Which is why I say it needs to be capped.

where do you live that the property tax rate is 3% ?

I pay right around 2%.

So you want him to pay an additional 10% income tax
on that 100k income and still have to pay a 1% property tax ?

He will then be paying 14k in taxes versus 12k.

From a economic perspective, perry has done a shitty job.

And if you look at how many illegals have entered Texas since he has been gov, then it is even more shitty.

You didn't answer my question...Do you support a candidate, that as the mayor of Houston, turned it into a haven for illegals? You being hispanic has nothing to do with this, unless you're illegal. You constantly berate me, claiming I use illegals, yet you support Bill White?

But I guess you think Perry is qualifed to make your own personal choices for your children.
And you think that Barry and his boys are qualified to make the whole countries personal medical choices? I don't have a daughter but I do have a woman that works for me shes around 24 and she had the HPV virus and I do know that she wishes she had had the vaccine. Look at all the other inoculations that our kids have to have just to go to school I am sure that most of these where met with a-lot of resistance when they came out.

The fact is that Texas is still in a much better position than the rest of the country. But I for one would rather the population in a whole pay an income tax then just sticking it to those of us that chose to own a home and try to live the American dream.

You can't fix stupid, but you can vote it out.

I know someone else on here has said it before but I will say it again.

If you think someone can do worse than Rick Perry, just elect Bill White and we will find out!

You should be happy as you will get cheaper labor.

Had your man perry done his job enforcing the border, white would not have to deal with that problem

So my choice is more hispanics or having a gov tell me what I need to inject in my daughter ?

Hard choice there.

Instead of Houston being a "sanctuary city" for illegal's, he'd make Texas a "sanctuary state" for them.

It didn't happen, now did it?

So you are now supporting full amnesty for illegals? My, how you flip-flop! Please stop while I still have a modicum of respect left for you.

It already is as perry has not done shit to enforce the border in 10 years.

Bullet, it's a federal issue. Another one that your buddy Obarry has utterly failed at. But, hey, thanks for pointing that out!
