DoD just got their excuse to keep the F-22..

Introducing Russia's answer to the F-22..

Unlike the F-22, this aircraft is highly likely to be exported to other countries, including many potential adversaries.

But at the same time THIS is probably the future of US fighter aircraft.

I can't see the vid, but is it the Gen 5 Sukhoi?

This should scare the crap out of the DOD if it's operational, because they said it was 5 years out last year.....

5 years sounds right.. It isn't operational. It's a prototype making its first flight..

The article I read said 2013 to start production. It usually takes a little while to get things ramped up and then get actual fighter wings operational. So I think DoD is correct..

Here it the Gizmodo article with more details..

Hmm so they did away with the SU-47.... That's what I thought it would be. (just saw the vids on my iphone)

The specs are almost identical... supercruise, Aesa radar, thrust vectoring.

This isn't good though

What's more worrying, however, is that the PKA-FA will use an IRST optical/IR search and track system capable of detecting the heat trail of an F-22 from as far as 25 kilometers away. The F-22, by contrast, doesn't use this system.

The era of stealth might just be over before it really began....

Nah, we'll be going through a period of one upping each other for a while. The F-22 does have IR suppression capabilities I'm betting those can be expanded upon.

Let's hope our pussyfoot congress has the stones to keep the F22. Otherwise, there goes our aerial superiority.

The current generation of Mig's & SU's already have the IR detection systems. We'd be stupid if we don't have a counter already.

The Chinese already figured out a way to detect the B2. They capture ALL the radio traffic in the air (radar, radio, tv, etc) and then they look for the "hole".

There'll be new versions of stealth to be sure.

Damn...the Russians never quit the cold war.

We need another arms/space/top dog race - AS SOON AS OBAMA IS OUT OF OFFICE so we can reclaim top dog status. The current CiC will lose the war on purpose.

Well I have to say, the f22 looks better lol. Reading on it, the idiots stoped production of the most advanced fighter? Crazy.... I know they are working on "unmaned" aircrafts, but some things are just better left alone.

According to my sources, the PAK-FA still has a LONG way to go before its production ready. Its basically where the F-22 was in 1991 when it won against the YF-23 for the contract.

The test aircraft in the vid isn't even using the production engines or any of the proposed standard avionics.... in other words, its going to be a while.

Anyway, the PAK-FA is designed to be a less expensive Raptor... while retaining close to the same capabilities of the F-22, but being much less expensive and made for export.

The dolts up on the hill were idiots for cancelling the F-22 after 187 aircraft, as well as keeping an export version off the table for our allies.

While the PAK-FA may not have quite the capabilities of the F-22, it will be less expensive, available for export, and quite capable of kicking the crap out of an F-35.

Way to go Washington!

Idiots...

It really isn't about the Cold War. Russia needs a military modernization to begin with but the big deal here is going to be the international arms trade. Unlike the F22, this bird will be sold to anyone that wants it. I guarantee you there is a huge built in market for this plane because of the very existence of the F22. Argentina, Iran, India, and China just to name a few.

Here's the thing. Manned fighter plans have hit their limits with fifth generation planes. The human body simply can't handle the abilities of those planes. Heck, the F-16 was capable of flying beyond the human bodies limits. I can't imagine how far the F-22 can surpass them.

If you take the human out of the plane and put him in a remote location, you get a fighter that is LIGHT YEARS more maneuverable than anything with a cockpit. It is also going to be a lot smaller and lighter.

Obama won't allow the DoD to continue the F22 because Russia, China, and all of the Middle East are now our friends.

Hell he's treating Israel like the enemy these days.
