You don't have to respect the person, just the rank.

I respect the office, not the man. Obama has a barrier between him and the "common folk" and Bush is with them. You can see the difference in their stances, the troops happy to see Bush and the bored looks on teh faces of the troops around Obama.

What's better? That's from the White House. That's the White House thinking he looks good.

They don't want their precious "messiah" getting too soiled.
I seriously wanna go Elvis (not Paul) on my TV every time I see that smug grin he can't seem to wipe off lately.

Thats just Bush... He's just like an every day guy, that just happened to be President.

My buddy was stationed at crawford ranch (commo guy). He says Bush drove around in a ford (i think) truck on the ranch. He tells a story of how Bush had a couple guys gather around to show off his new weedeater. Just a cool dude.

Now that he lives in the DFW area I have heard you can meet him and Luara Bush as they eat at regular restruants frequently. My uncle met him a few months back as he was mountain biking out in Cedar Hill. He said is just a genuine Texan in normal conversation.

I've always thought of GW as just another dude in the White House that was as approachable as anyone on the street (with the exception of the 20 or so Secret Service guards). He's a guy that you can hang with in front of the garage talking about cars and having a beer.

Reminds me of when Clinton came to Hood once or twice. NONE of us wanted to deal with it and see him.

When I was on Victory Base, I know there were a good amount of people that wanted to go meet Bush. (I personally did not want any of the drama) Heck, even people who would not want to vote for him would go see him.

Obama, the troops seemed forced there or otherwise were ordered to behave a certain way. Depending on how you look at it, that's fine. I just get the impression those troops are not as...happy about being there as the ones I remember when Bush stopped by.

I'm more offended that he's on an elevated platform than the barrier. He really does think he's above everyone else.

Also note, they're reaching out to Bush...hands held back with Obama.

A friend of mine has a picture of her hugging him at some restaurant in Dallas.

I'm going to say, fairly confidently, that Obama wasn't involved in the design of that.

I met him when he was still governor before a race out at TMS and he is just that. We shot the shit for about five minutes in the garage after the drivers meeting and he was as genuine as could be...

George is a damned good guy, regardless of what one thinks of his political leaning. Until you actually hold a conversation with the man you have no real grasp as to what kind of person he really is...

Yes. There's multiple uniforms in his picture. I see a couple army, an Air force ABU, officer desert flight suits, and a civilian contractor. All within 5 feet of each other. It was one of those "OK we need 4 people from each branch to go see Obama" type deals. I'm sure it was all voluntold for them.
