This is why I Love America!

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. ––
Officials at North Carolina Granite Corp. thought they had the inside track on winning the subcontract to provide materials for the for the 9-11 memorial in New York City, but were livid to learn that the contract was awarded to an overseas company

Yet unemployment is now in check and all is well! Time and time again American jobs are sold out to overseas contractors. I dont see any recovery going on here just the same old bullshit.

Why can't we fire government officials. Seriously, where is the logic that goes on!?!

Some Govt officials pockets and or campaign coffers just got lined for this decision.

Unemployment for Gov't jobs is 3%. The rest of us are fighting 9.7%. Government jobs now pay more than their equals make in the private sector. Go figure...

ok let me see if i got this right. you think someone has the right to tell you how to run your business ? here is where it gets kind of muddy. unless the gov made stipulations in the contract no one has the right to tell the contractor where to buy his materials. freedom comes with it's own unique set of problems. where do we draw the line ?

Logic and Government officials do not mix.

Our government needs our help, they have an addiction. Our government is addicted to our money. Since they always have our best interest at heart it's time we return the favor. We need to have an intervention, for the governments own good of course. It's just irresponsible for us to let people with a known money addiction continue to handle our money. Lets have an intervention now so we can help these sick individuals.

Im sure they got a better deal from the overseas company. Business is business I suppose but its pretty sad that Americans dont even get to do the granite work on their own memorial because someone wants to make some extra money. Would China allow an American company to do stone work at their memorial? Probably not. Money> whats right.

To the Swedes. I'd be cool with that. Whoever represents my interests and is halfway competent has my vote.

Oh I'm pretty sure its all going to come crashing down on our heads. A country is like a company. A big, giant, massive company. How long can any company suffer this kind of idiocy, combined with such financial distress? I think there is a chance that at some point, we'll be completely ruined. Sucks.

I wonder what the bid difference was, and where N.C. couldn't adjust their cost/quality structure.

To play the Devil's advocate, I'm assuming the project is in whole or partially publicly funded and the check writers are accountable to the tax-payer. Still, I'd venture a guess that tax-payers, in this case, would be willing to "over-pay" to keep the project from being farmed outside the country.

If you read more about the development (or lack there of) of the 9/11 memorial in New York, you'll realize that the NY Port Authority make the bickering of the Dallas City Council with the Trinity River Valley Development look like the peanut gallery.

It's sad.

as ive said many times, why would anyone hire an american for anything. You can always find someone cheaper when you go worldwide. Globalization is destroying this country, we can not compete when it comes to price. Free trade works great....in a closed market like we had.

I like how japan and korea send millions of cars to the US but wont let us do the same. I imagine if you were to dig deep enough you would see alot of this. We are supposed to open our doors wide and let everybodys shit in while they protect there own jobs and well being. Makes me fucking sick.

The trouble with doing something right the first time is that nobody appreciates how difficult it was.

I remember when the bailout for the automakers happened followed immediately by "Cash For Clunkers" It would not have been hard to say Cash for Clunkers only applies if you are buying an American Car. To me it would have made a lot of sense.

What's an American car? My Ford Focus made in Mexico? Or someone's Toyota made in the US?

Love how the chinese are getting more and more bold about telling the US what to do. Cant wait till they are a true superpower! lol
