Tonight's Address/ Drinking game.

Every time Obama says healthcare or lies - take a drink! Game starts right now on almost every channel.

Anyone else going to watch this? I dunno if I can without wanting to smash the TV.

I know. Just trying to make light of it so I can sit through it. Everytime he does one of these things now I get nervous. I'm pretty sure this one is going to be nothing but an infomerical for his healthcare reform trying to flip someone.

Still makes me sick to my stomach when he talks though.

Funny thing about his history, it just doesn't support his words.

1/19/09, the last day of Free America.
Pericles "Freedom is the sure possession of those alone who have the courage to defend it. "

"[T]he people alone have an incontestable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to institute government and to reform, alter, or totally change the same when their protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness require it." --Samuel Adams

Oh... that was tonight?

Did it really need to be on 11 different channels?

I found Man Vs. Food way more entertaining. Adam ate a a 4.5 lb burger topped with hot dogs and pastrami, 1.5 lbs of cheese fries and a 16oz shake in 30 minutes. Tell me that shit isn't good TV!

Oh, it won't go unnoticed. Calling out the Supreme Court on a CONSTITUTIONAL decision by someone who has little regard for the Constitution? The pundits will rip him a new one today and tonight.

It’s time to put strict limits on the contributions that lobbyists give to candidates for federal office. With all due deference to separation of powers, last week the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests — including foreign corporations — to spend without limit in our elections.
[Pause for applause.]

I don’t think that American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse by foreign enemies; they should be decided by the American people. And I’d urge Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that helps correct … some of these problems.

This is coming from the guy that holds the record for highest campaign contributions in the history of the planet. Now he wants to slam the door on contributors, so he's got a little better chance of not getting kicked out on his dumb ass, in 3 years.

According to the Glenn Beck program this morning, foreign contributions have never been allowed.

He's just talking out his ass, giving Pelosi a stand up/sit down workout.

Holy crap, I didn't realize this... what a prick.

Quote:
Every president since Ronald Reagan has used the State of the Union as an opportunity to honor some distinguished Americans (and, occasionally, foreign friends of America). It’s become a tradition for the First Lady to share her guest box with a few mostly-ordinary people who’ve done something extraordinary.

Reagan started it with a man who, upon seeing an airliner crash into a freezing river, dove in and pulled a passenger to safety. Other notable guests have included entrepeneurs, soldiers, foreign dignataries, and sports stars.

Last night was no exception. Obama’s special guests were Officers Kimberly Munley and Mark Todd, the two heroic cops who stopped the Fort Hood shooter.

We know this because that’s who was announced to be the guests, and viewers might have caught glimpses of police uniforms during the cutaways to the first lady for her reactions.

Because President Obama didn’t bother to give them a “shout out” during the speech.

I'd imagine he saw what has been going on in Washington, became disgusted, and started paying closer attention to it.

Good for him. We need more Americans to tune in to what the fuck is going on up there. That way we don't find ourselves in this same situation all over again. People that don't know politics, and vote on popularity alone, need to be stripped of their voters cards. Obama's election is a prime example of it. Ignorance is not an acceptable excuse. Don't know about it? Research, and make an informed opinion. Not just a "well my buddy says..." opinion.

It's not that I didn't care, but I imagine like alot of other people who have an interest, are clueless where to start and who to believe. As a person just getting into it, it's a very intimidating subject to approach. Take this forum for example, there is alot of hostility in here alot of the time. Asking an actual geniune question some people take it as confrontational and want to argue right away rather than educate. I'm very interested in politics these days. I want to know where our tax dollars are going, I've lost three friends and a cousin now in this war. I want to learn what is going, but I don't want to be talked AT, but rather with. I don't want to be told what to think, but educated by someone who really knows what they are talking about rather than just arguing blind party sides.

I read somebody say something to this effect about "foreign contributions", and it makes sense within my limited knowledge of the subject:
Corporations are mostly now "multi-national, in that the biggest ones tend to operate in several different countries with no allegiance to any specific one. If McDonald's, for example, were allowed to contribute $1,000,000 to his campaign fund that could be construed as foreign money because they operate all over the world.

Like I said, I have limited knowledge on the idea and I made up the example, but I can see where and big corp having the ability to spend endlessly on any candidate would be a bad thing. I don't know the text of the law or the ruling and I have read conflicting evidence so I am trying to find good sources to edumacate myself on it.

EDIT: In my opinion corporations should not be able to give money at all. They can't vote, but the people who comprise them can, why shouldn't campaign contributions be the same?

Many corporations are only comprised of a few people some just have one person. So why should they be punished and told what they can contribute.

What do you think about Unions that give Millions to the candidate that the "Union Bosses" decide on. I don't see much difference.

You can't fix stupid, but you can vote it out.

How is that punishing any small business? I didn't say anything about limiting individual contributions, I said a corp can't vote, so they shouldn't contribute. Let the one guy of "Joe's Small Business" contribute as an individual just like everybody else. No punishment there.

Well I think unions in general should go bye bye, BUT since they are very real I see them the same way. No vote, no contribute. It isn't a perfect, well though out theory, but it works for these situations.

You do realize that one person can have his own corp. ie "Joes Small Business" can also be a corp.

According to the Glenn Beck program this morning, foreign contributions have never been allowed.

He's just talking out his ass, giving Pelosi a stand up/sit down workout.
That's just because he was taking a shot @ the Supreme Court for their decision last week.
