Where are the leaders of today

I'm not really a history buff but I do like to read about WWII and started reading about Vannevar Bush, no relation to any of the former president's but he was the driving force behind winning WW2 through technology.

As director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development (OSRD) in 1941 he oversaw and directed 30,000 men and oversaw development of some 200 weapons and instrumentalities of war, the Manhattan Project, sonar, radar, the proximity fuze, amphibious vehicles, the Norden bomb sight. At one time, two-thirds of all the nation’s physicists were working under Bush’s direction. In addition, many advances of the physical sciences and medicine, including the mass production of penicillin and sulfa drugs.

He founded the company that later became Ratheon, his leadership created the National Science Foundation.

It's pretty amazing what the United States accomplished back in the early 40's. Building massive amounts of tanks, ships, bombers, building Oak Ridge, defeating two superpowers at the same time in five years, ect...

We have become a chick-afied nation.

There really isn't an in your face external attempt to destroy our way of life and the fight in people is subdued right now.

It's quite funny, every elder generation questions the younger generations about to "Lead into the Future".

I've been watching "WWII in HD" on the history channel this week (Fascinating show), and they mentioned how the elder generation in 1941 never thought the younger generation was worth a damn.

We now call that "worthless" generation the Greatest Generation.

It will take the country having the proverbial gun pointed at us on both coasts for an effort like the 1940's to ever happen again.

Its a shame we dont have that production capacity any more. All of the manufacturing has been outsourced, and it would really suck if we needed to start a war effort.

That being said, nuclear deterrence will prevent another global war.

It's also not really encouraging to me when I see how fucked up and morally corrupt so many "20-somethings" are right here on this board. I hope this board isn't a true cross section of our society...

That is completely dependent on the leader of the country being able to use said deterrence. I think obama wouldn't use nukes in any situation, and thus they are not actually a deterrence at that point.

Say N. Korea nuked Hawaii, do you think obama would use nukes for a retaliatory strike, or do you think he would just cry to the UN and try to talk it out with them?
