Lou Dobbs is leaving CNN!!

I would say that I hope he goes to Fox, but then again, I don't know where there would be room for him. Fox needs to have another Channel. They have John Stossel on Fox Business, but that's like channel 251 for me, and Fox News is 41.

Here's the article..

Lou Dobbs Says He's Leaving CNN Immediately

Wednesday, November 11, 2009 7:40 PM

CNN's Lou Dobbs, a lightning rod for criticism following his transition from a business journalist to an opinionated anchor on such issues as illegal immigration, told viewers on Wednesday that he was quitting his nightly show to pursue new opportunities.

"This will be my last broadcast," Dobbs said after giving the day's headlines. Dobbs, who hosts a daily radio show unrelated to CNN, said the network had allowed him to be released early from his contract.

Dobbs was a CNN original, signing on when the cable network started in 1980. For much of that time, he hosted a nightly business broadcast that became one of the most influential shows in the corporate world, and CNN's most profitable show for advertising revenue.

But Dobbs said his world view changed after the 2001 terrorist attacks and corporate corruption scandals, and he began to more freely express his opinions. He was particularly persistent in bringing the immigration issue to the fore, winning him both higher ratings and enemies. Latino groups had an active petition drive seeking his removal.

His presence became awkward for CNN, particularly as it began emphasizing reporting and non-opinion shows. He angered management this summer by pressing questions about President Barack Obama's birth site after CNN reporters determined there was no issue.

Dobbs said the decision came after many months of discussion with CNN U.S. President Jon Klein. Dobbs said he wanted to concentrate on his role as a commentator and on advocacy journalism.

Klein hailed Dobbs' "appetite for big ideas, the megawatt smile and larger than life presence he brought to our newsroom."

"With characteristic forthrightness, Lou has now decided to carry the banner of advocacy journalism elsewhere," Klein said. "We respect his decision."

Dobbs said he was proud of his role in helping to build the first cable news network. He said some leaders in media, politics and business "have been urging me to go beyond my role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem-solving."

Seated at an anchor desk in front of a screen with a fluttering American flag, Dobbs mentioned his interest in issues such as health care, jobs, immigration, climate change and the wars.

"Unfortunately, these issues are now defined in the public arena by partisanship and ideology rather than rigorous empirical thought and forthright analysis and discussion," he said. "I will be working diligently to change that as best I can."

His resignation was hailed by activists who were seeking his ouster.

"Our contention all along was that Lou Dobbs — who has a long history of spreading lies and conspiracy theories about immigrants and Latinos — does not belong on the most trusted name in news," said Roberto Lovato, co-founder of Presente.org. "We are thrilled that Dobbs no longer has the legitimate platform from which to incite fear and hate."

Tom Saenz, president of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the leading Latino legal organization, said, "I think the Latino community can and should celebrate that Lou Dobbs is no longer on CNN."

Dobbs did not immediately return telephone and e-mail messages to talk about his critics.

Although he joined CNN in 1980, Dobbs left the network for two year in 1999, after angrily complaining on the air about a decision by then-CNN President Rick Kaplan to switch away from his show to a live news event. An Internet venture failed and when Kaplan left CNN, Dobbs returned.

A decision on who will replace Dobbs is expected to be announced on Thursday.

I guess that he is tired of getting beaten up for caring about illegal immigration.

I think I heard that Fox's Red Eye program in the middle of the night has more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined. If he goes to Fox, he'll have a much broader platform.

The Fox News dominance has lasted through Bush and Obama. I think it has the staying power to support the claim that it is fair and balanced and most Americans think they are doing a good job. I think independent polling companies have shown that anywhere from 20-40% of Fox viewers are liberal or independent, not just conservatives.

I always liked Dobbs, even read his one of his books, and use to watch him quite often. his reporting was always fair and un-bias, he attacked the right just as much as he attacked the left, though other people seemed to blow his reporting out of proportion.

If you ever attack the left they don't care what else you do. You get labeled by them and they go after you no matter how fair the attack was or how often you do it.

The groups that are associated with hate and attack anyone who disagrees with them are all associated with the Dems and the left. NOW, pro-abortion groups, the Gay and Lesbian groups, the anti-war groups, and many others all have a prominent place in the Democratic party and in Obama's administration.

There are far right hate groups, but how many have a prominent place in the Republicans and how many have ever had an offical position in a Republicans WH?

I agree, the party that prides themselves on being "tolerant" of others, is no longer being tolerant.

-If you don't like Obama's policies, your racist
-If you weren't for Sotomayor, you're racist
-If you aren't for gay marriage, you're homophobic
-If you aren't for illegal immigration, you're racist or xenophobic
-If you're against abortion, you hate women

Why Dobbs Quit CNN: Birthers, Politics

Friday, November 13, 2009 5:27 PM

By: Jim Meyers Article Font Size

Lou Dobbs walked away from CNN — and $9 million — under pressure to tone down his rhetoric as the network seeks a more centrist position among the cable news channels.

Dobbs announced his resignation from "Lou Dobbs Tonight" on the air Wednesday night following months of friction between the veteran newsman and CNN brass.

The beginning of the end, the New York Post is reporting, came in July when CNN President Jonathan Klein told Dobbs' staff in a memo to stay away from so-called "birther" stories about doubts that Barack Obama was really born in the United States.

"It seems this story is dead because anyone who still is not convinced doesn't really have a legitimate beef," Klein said in the memo.

Dobbs and Klein have been at odds ever since, according to the Post.

During the 2008 campaign, Barack Obama released a shortened version of his birth certificate, sometimes called a certification of live birth. However, he has yet to release his long form birth certificate, which would indicate the actual place of his birth.

This has given rise to Internet rumors that Obama was born outside the United States. Officials in Hawaii have looked at the long form and have stated that he was, indeed, born in the state.

CNN apparently doesn’t like the controversy and is seeking to position itself as a middle-of-the-road news source between conservative Fox News and left-leaning MSNBC, and Dobbs reportedly had been resisting pressure to soften his stance on immigration and other issues.

Dobbs still had one and a half years on his five-year, $35 million contract, which was back-loaded, and he would have earned another $9 million before the contract ended in mid-2011.

Post columnist Cindy Adams had high praise for Dobbs following his departure.

"Ahead of the curve, the man predicted the fiscal crisis," she wrote on Friday.

"Raised the hammer on corporate profiteering at the expense of the middle class. Pointed out flaws in the bank-bailout bill. Waged war on border security, exposing how the feds have lost track of visas, and five years later the subject of immigration became mainstream dialogue.

"His interminable fight on behalf of border agents Ramos and Compean? Remember how the U.S. government subsequently commuted their sentence?"

Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean were jailed for shooting and wounding an illegal alien who was smuggling drugs from Mexico into Texas in 2005.

Dobbs, Adams wrote, "analyzed. He predicted. He never saw an argument that wasn't a fight. Lou Dobbs is brilliant. Fearless. Determined to go how he wants to go. He takes sides."

So CNN wants to be more centrist so they stifle a conservative to moderate voice?

This is why I have been claiming that liberals think their views are moderate and centrist. They seek to go farther left and think they are going centrist. I sure hope '10 comes quickly.
