Demo. Chuck Hopson joins GOP

hahahahahahahaha... i just thought this was kinda funny,

State Rep. Chuck Hopson, saying his East Texas district does not reflect the views of President Barack Obama, bolted the Democratic Party.

"I believe in democracy and respect its process," Hopson said in a news release. "I will be running as a Republican in 2010 and will campaign hard to win the Republican primary and general elections."

Hopson, a pharmacist, has represented Texas House District 11 since 2001. The district includes, Cherokee, Houston, Panola and Rusk Counties. Last year John McCain beat Obama in that district with 71 percent of the vote.

Democrats on Friday suggested Hopson lacked courage.

"It takes strength and integrity to stand against the special interest," wrote Texas Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie. "And while some members have that strength, others like Chuck Hopson, apparently do not."

Republicans welcomed the lawmaker.

"Chuck is an outstanding public servant who fights hard for his East Texas constituents," said House Speaker Joe Straus.

Since when does 71% = Special Interest?

"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have."

I noticed this wasn't in quotes, so I'm wondering if the news outlet put their interpretation of his move to be counterproductive to his efforts.

State Rep. Chuck Hopson, saying his East Texas district does not reflect the views of President Barack Obama, bolted the Democratic Party.

I hope he means well with his plans, and not doing it just for votes.

I hope he's not another RINO like olympia snow, or obstensibly john mccain, but since he WAS a democrat i'll believe it when I see it.

This could start a trend. There are a lot of "blue dogs" that know when people go to vote and pull that straight ticket lever, they're done. Running as a Democrat on a ballot may be a political "death warrant" for a lot of politicians.

Now if this will just translate to that health care bill dying AND cap and trade eating the big one...
