Which party do you align yourself with?

Don't just vote for the party that you think you have to in order to "take what you can get". Fuck that. If everybody supported other parties we wouldn't have these scummy Dem/Repub parties with their little ass wipe politicians. Vote for the party that you would vote for, if you thought that if you voted for him, the candidate from that party would FOR SURE be elected. Doesn't have to be for any particular office. Can be prez, senate, congress, whatever. I won't make the voters decisions viewable, in effort to garner greater truth. But I will say that I will be going Libertarian. I love me some constitution.

I dont align with a party, I align based on the candidate and what he stands for so its hard to pick a party.

I would put myself somewhere between Republican and Libertarian... leaning to the latter...

Well yeah I agree. But if any of the other parties were to ever rise, the other two would have to fall farther back on the original core values of that party. Which would benefit all of us. And as such I don't know that I will ever be voting Democrat or Republican again. Everyone says, "Don't say your vote doesn't matter. Get out there and vote!" Well I think that's true. So I don't think it would be a waste for me to always vote libertarian from now on.

I consider myself a staunch moderate

Really I do consider myself more of moderate than a true conservative or libral, but I do lean towards the conservative side more ofter than not. If I had to pick a party it would be republican, and as a whole the republican party has slowly moved towards the center.

I didn't vote because there wasn't a selection that accurately fit my current political paradigm. Democrat and Republican in today's climate are pretty broad terms. There is a night and day difference between a Barack Obama Democrat and a Blue Dog Democrat like Charlie Melancon.

My current political views would be more aligned with a centrist Democrat or a Socially liberal Republican.

I believe in states rights and in following the constitution as it's written. What party does that put me in? I'm also anti union, pro life and pro gun.

Card carrying Republican. Not for any reason other than they have affected my bottom line less over the years than any other.

That would make you a red blooded American. And against the corruption in all of the party's in congress right now.

It also puts you on the terrorist watch list. Welcome!

All you guys who voted libertarian, need to go vote libertarian. And tell everyone you know, who is like you, to do the same. I think what would really help this country, is for everyone to get out of this mentality that we are stuck with these two parties. They can drift too close together and be a lot shittier with no competition. Take all your ideas about competition in business, and thrust them into government.

The problem with voting Libertarian is that the electoral collage screws anyone who isn't a Democrat or Republican. Voting Libertarian/Independent tends to hurt conservatives more because it takes votes away from the Republicans. Bill Clinton first term is a shining example of this.

I agree that it hurts conservatives. But it's the mentality that we are stuck with them that gets us into the shit. Cause technically, we are not stuck with them. It's just that if the Libertarian guy doesn't win, (which for the first few terms, he won't) then that's less "conservative" votes that get in. But you know what? Half the time those little ass wipes don't do what they say they are going to do. They lie enough to get in there, and we just keep on believing them. Well I'm through believing them. Fuck them. This would be something that is going to take the long haul to get anything done. A lot of people would have to vote libertarian for about 3 terms, is my guess. But then as the tension builds, and the media coverage gets more and more, it would/could eventually erupt into a new big party that everyone recognizes and considers. Change is never easy. Sometimes you got to take a little shit. But if there is one thing that we all know... doing things for the good of the short term, and not the long term, fucks us all in the long run. So from now on, I will at least be able to say that I do what I can to pull us out of the shit.

that would be conservative or federalist...
That is what I would label myself, but people look at me weird when I tell them I'm a federalist...

No it's not. I think most of us here would be happy with the advent of another party. They would thus be competing, and have to try harder. Simple.

Well thatís the purpose of primaries. If we had 3 parties, or even 4 or 5 parties then you would have a president that was elected with margins of 25% to 35% of the vote. In local and state elections I would say thatís fine, but in a national election I think the 2 party systems we have combined with the Electoral College is a good combination.
If you want to run as a Democrat or Republican in the primary with everyone knowing you are leaning toward libertarianism that is fine with me. Push your ideals and fight for your position just like everyone else but forcing another party into the system, I think, would do more damage than good.
Thatís why there is no conservative party, conservatives figured out the only way to get elected is to pull the party to them not form a new party.
I think we would be better off if Libertarians pulled the Democratic Party toward them and Conservatives pulled the Republican Party towards them, and then debate. Get rid of all these Liberal Leftists. But thatís just me.
