President Obama has decided to reduce pay increases for civilian federal workers from 2.4 percent to 2 percent, citing the economic downturn and the ballooning federal budget as reasons for the cut.
I hope my sarcasm was noted in the title. This will be touted as "saving money" or "tightening of the proverbial belt", however I would argue that to save money you first have to start from a baseline budget figure. ie: Your budget is $100 dollars and it typically increases 8% annually, that gives you $108, correct? So how are you saving if you drop .4% from that 8% increase? I suggest that you aren't as there's still an increase of 7.6%.
To actually save money you subtract from the baseline of $100. Further more, why on earth are Federal employees getting a raise when most folks are so dadgum broke they don't have a pot to weetee in much less a window to throw it out of.
This is gross gubment incompetence at its finest.
EDIT: this also shows the level of hubris w/in the gubment.
