What's the deal with the 2010 Census?

I keep hearing Republicans saying they won't fill out the new Census. Why?

Give me a dollar.

Take a look at a few of the questions that are about to be asked of you, your daily routine, habits, family routine, etc. and then you'll know why.

the Constitution only requires every person be counted. Not estimated, but counted--but that's another topic.

Any question other than, "how many people live in this dwelling?" is outside the government's Constitutional purview and should be strictly voluntary. The feds are talking about fining people who don't answer all the questions. If the purpose of the census is representative and budgetary apportionment, none of the other information is necessary.

All seems quite nefarious to me so I'll go put on my tin foil hat now.

My wife just had to fill out some bullshit fucking questionaire for her medical coverage at school. It had questions like how many partners? When was your first? what's your favorite color? How many pairs of shoes do you have?

You think I'm bullshitting but I'm not. It was much more of a profile than it was a form to check medical history.

This shit is out of control and I mean now.

We need to wake the fuck up.

Yesterday.

How do they plan on imposing the fines?

They're going to take it directly out of your bank account that will soon be hooked to the REAL ID that everyone will have to soon carry. It will be linked to everything you own/do but of course it's for your own good and safety.

Our government needs our help, they have an addiction. Our government is addicted to our money. Since they always have our best interest at heart it's time we return the favor. We need to have an intervention, for the governments own good of course. It's just irresponsible for us to let people with a known money addiction continue to handle our money. Lets have an intervention now so we can help these sick individuals.

Someone please show me where there is going to be a fine/punishment for failing to fill out the census.

I'm asking, because my company is working with the GPO to SEND the census to (classified number) millions of households. There is not a single NAME on any of them. These things get sent to ADDRESSES. How are you going to fine an address?

FYI, the Republicans are pissed because, like everything else, big daddy wants to oversee the census too. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/firs...versee-census/

I read the questions but I don't see anything that is a huge deal. Some kinda weird questions, but nothing really alarming?? It looks like the newest questions were from 08, why all the fuss now?

LoL at the fines.

I haven't read the questions yet, so this is pure speculation. I'm guessing the gov't is trying to do what every other company does when they ask you to fill out a survey, etc. -- they're trying to get free market research. They'll use these numbers as a part of studies and reference figures for bills/laws etc. If they don't get a decent sampling back, then they would have to hire someone to do the study (market research). A large number of a particular segment filling out the information completely while others do not would also lead toward a biased set of data -- potentially affecting decisions regarding law.

Again, that's pure speculation, but you see this all the time in the business world.

Really? I got something from the census (it looked legit) The name was not correct so I sent it back. First and last name were correct but middle initial was wrong so I returned it.

Yep. On my census I only fill out the parts I think are important and screw the rest. If I get chewed on about it, I AM mentally disabled.

You have not been sent a census form yet.

You may have been sent SOMETHING from the Census Bureau, but the production run of the census paperwork through the GPO has not taken place yet.

That is correct. My dads company is still working on the printing for the census. They have been for a few months now.

Just through the thing in the trash.

For those how think it's no big deal.

Really? How secure is the mail? Who will have access to this info?

I will not put down anything that I would not tell a total stranger.

I never fill one out. People have come around to do the survey but I do not answer the door or they can't make it through the locked gates. The ones I got in the mail I just toss. Seems like one year I got a call and they wanted to come by again. I don't know how they got my number. Anyway in over 40 years I have never filled one out. I have a FAA A&P and FFL, CCW and some other stuff but I don't think they check anything and they certainly havenít denied me any renewals. Maybe that will change but I doubt it. I would hate to get my first felony for not filling out a form.

Good call. I'm boycotting the Census.

Although, on second thought, do we really want the dems to get even more power?
