What would the US be like without.....

That thread got me thinking. What would our country be like without medicare, medicaid, and food stamps? I'm curious because the government gives out free money like crazy here and some pieces of sh*t always manipulate the system.

I know there's gotta be tons of cons to getting rid of it, but just think of how much money is given away to people too lazy to find a job. If we didn't have to give that much money away we would definitely have WAY lower taxes. Or fuck it, keep the taxes but use that money on more productive things.

Maybe I'm just jealous because I actually work and bust my ass for everything I've gotten.

What do you think?

On a side note, where's all this money we're "bailing out" everybody coming from? I mean, yeah we're printing money but doesn't that water down the price of a dollar? Sorry, I'm not exactly an Economics major....

Yes, the value of a dollar goes down (one of the reasons oil is going back up) and the seeds for rampant inflation are being planted (we haven't seen this yet, but it's coming). Italy printed money once and suffered an inflation rate of about 1000% if I remember correctly.

I believe that country is poised to suffer yet more rounds of recessionary action as inflation hits, and people can then thank the dems for spending like drunken sailors and kicking off something much worse than where we were. The economy would have kicked back up on it's own had they just left it alone. Always does.

My hope is that the idiots that elected obama will learn some kind of lesson from electing liberals into positions of power. We'll see on the 2010 elections.

Nope. The bottom feeders don't feel the pain. They get all the support system they need from the backs of working people that are paying more into the system than they get out. Unfortunately, there are more bottom feeders than taxpayers. And the system is being tilted further in their favor every day, giving them more reason to show up at the polls than ever before.

Frost, you are NOT part of the problem! We are discussing working-age and physically capable people that have learned ways to manipulate the system so that their standard of living is higher through government subsitence than if they were working. That is a situation that needs to stop.

I think veterans' benefits should be stepped UP in fact... way up. You guys get screwed.

It'll be interesting to see how the lefties responsd if states like Cali start shutting off benefits and they have to return to work..

Doesn't medicare/medicaid (one of them) help old folks out? I'm all for helping old people out who are low on money and such.

Although the mooches do suck. Sucks when around 35% of your check is gone, then you get taxed on everything you buy and they just keep taking. Then somehow, we're still in fucking debt as a country, some states (most), most cities. Damn it I'm going to go off one day.

How is it they can take 20-40% of someone's pay, nail a bagillion people with tickets non-stop and STILL be in debt from the bottom on up? No wonder the government is bailing out scum bags who can't stop spending - the government runs the same damned way.

Take care,

For starters, I wouldn't have got stuck behind some mexicans in HEB last night because they picked up the wrong milk and it wasn't covered by LoneStar. They couldn't just pay for it with the wad of cash he pulled out of his pocket; we had to wait for the checker to go get the right kind.

On the other hand, I'm sure they felt bad about holding us up when they were loading up in their 07+ Silverado outside...

That is suck bullshit. And you cant report that crap, even if you did they have it all setup that they are just "borrowing" the new car. Complete BS.

Ah, ya know. They find it completely entertaining that our laws/government are so soft. I swear it is easier being a loser.

Seriously, from ages 13-16ish I started doing a little illegal stuff. Stealing and otherwise finding ways to make extra money (Yes, I still worked). Had I stuck with that I might've been in jail once or twice. However, using a little brains I'm sure I could be well into 6 figures and tax free. Not to mention that 6 figures would be buying all stolen stuff at real discount prices - tax free.

Oh and given our current prison system I'm probably just be on parole or something. Too many people in prison enjoying the good for prison - life.

It would look like India. No public education, people starving in the streets, gutters as sewers, I don't know why you have to ask if you just look at the rest of the world.

Here's some news you can use: welfare feeds poor kids and old people. That's it.
Run down there and see if they are really giving away free money or if you have been fed a ridiculous line of BS.

Post up when you have your Welfare Check. When you don't get one, be sure to post that too. This is your chance Boys, prove me wrong!

Because that is what happened before the entitlement system was in place huh?

Your example is just as absurd as the line of bullshit that all welfare is wasted.

The facts are that if welfare programs no longer existed then the poor would have to rely on charity to support themselves or they would have nothing. I'm all for welfare for the permanently disabled. I am fully in favor of a lifetime maximum for welfare benefits for any able bodied person. There is no excuse for not supporting yourself in this country. If you decide not to support yourself then you should depend on charity to support yourself, I shouldn't be REQUIRED to pay for people who choose to not help themselves.

In a different but related note, welfare is not why this country is going broke. There is a lot more waste in other areas.

From what I can tell, the people posting here are all gainfully employed, so of course you already know they won't be receiving any checks. You have to be sitting on your ass pumping out babies to get the checks. If you think there isn't an entire system in place for creating welfare dependency by rewarding piss-poor behavior, you're either stupid or naive.

I appreciate it guys. I still feel bad about drawing VA benefits and social security. It stays in the back of my head that I'm not exactly contributing and grates.

That said....I have a few leads. Seems my education guy at the VA told me when I get my Master's, he has a GS-11 job for me. Wish me luck
