Its the only way to make solar/wind/wave/gerbil wheel/green energy "affordable" though, by making "traditional" energy more expensive.

Question

Has signing online petitions ever resolved anything? Is there some proof that signing petitions makes any difference whatsoever?

Although I believe that this is being called a "tax" to get the public up in arms, I still think it is horseshit and will sign it. This is not a tax, but simply a spin on one use of the word in a different context.

Total number of signatures: 73489

I edited this after opening the link: Although I agree 110% with what this petition is attempting to accomplish, I think it is a bit underhanded that your "signature" is automatic once you open the above link.

You're right, its not a technically a tax. Its a fee-structure based on how much CO2 is belched out in the energy making process.

But who's going to pay that fee? Not TXU.

I agree with you 100%. I just signed w/ them for a locked in rate of $.13 per kwh but I bet your ass that at then end of that 2 years they won't be offering that anymore. Especially if this Cap-N-Trade Obamanation is allowed to pass.

But honestly, what the fuck does he care since we have to pay his electricity bill as well.

Oh...him and Al Gore got plenty of investments in those Carbon-footprint-management-trading companies.

That's the most BS sham of them all. Trading something that technically doesn't exist to be traded. "Hey, I'm going to sell my carbon credits I didn't use so you can spit out more carbon." Net result? Same amount of CO2 is put in the air, but now its green-friendly because they get to make money on it.

The petition was started by Newt Gingrich's group, so it is not like Joe Schmo in Wisconsin started a petition. It is better than nothing!

someone needs to rip down the mother-fucking-cock-sucking-EPA.

effectively they have ruled on your behalf that CO2 IS pollution. you will now be burdened with the fact that it is okay to create CO2, because there is no harm in it, but you will pay for it. dont worry it will now be charged to your toll tag. thanks.

this may just be the biggest fucking slap in the face of the US i have ever witnessed.

new mission: create co2 generators, fill up state of texas, run, watch EPA cry.

These carbon credits and all of yall's conspiracy talk in the other thread have me thinking.

Carbon is the 6th element on the periodic table it also has.

6 electrons
6 protons
6 neutrons

And this is going to be used has credits and traded on the world wide markets.

You can't fix stupid, but you can vote it out.

My point isn't that Carbon doesn't exist per se, it's creating the market for it that doesn't exist. Its not like there's a limited supply of carbon, like there is with other goods. The whole limiting of the supply is purely political. The government decides how much carbon should be emitted from a power plant, a car, a cow, you, whatever. In essence then, they'll control the market as they decide how much should be out there per "generator".

Then we'll have speculator crap like with the oil, with financial firms gobbling up carbon-credits to sell off to those companies that go over their limit, which will increase their costs.

In the end. US economy nose dives as we pay more for carbon BS than food, TV's, etc.

Your right, calling does not work. When this crap was being voted on in the house, the phones blew up with phone call 20 to 1 telling them no! They passed it any way. Now the senate has the bill.

Armed revolt........ Not yet.

But watch for this piece of legislation. Your answer will be clear.

I recently got this e-mail from Chet Edwards (17th district) at least ONE dem gets it.

Quote:
Many constituents have written and called my office to express their opinion on the cap and trade energy legislation, H.R. 2454, which narrowly passed the House 219-212 recently. I opposed the bill. These are the reasons why:

First, I was concerned that it could significantly increase the cost of utility bills and gasoline prices for families and businesses in our district and throughout the country. Some estimates suggested the annual cost increase per family could be more than one thousand dollars a year. Given our country is still mired in a serious recession and over 15,000 people a day are losing their jobs, it is unacceptable to add an additional burden on families who are struggling with monthly bills.

Second, this bill was over 1,400 pages long, and numerous changes were made in it shortly before we voted on it in the U.S. House. I believe major, complex legislation such as this with long-term implications for our country deserves to be considered in a more thorough, less rushed process. The fact is that no one knows all of the implications of this bill. For example, I am concerned that the “cap and trade” provisions could create a new type of Wall Street/Enron speculation market that makes billions for Wall Street traders at the expense of American families and businesses. Given what some Wall Street speculators have done to harm our country’s economy, the last thing I want to do is to line their pockets with another speculation scheme.

Third, agriculture is still an important industry for our district and country. Since agriculture is energy intensive in its use of diesel fuel and fertilizers, I had a special concern that the cap and trade bill could just add another burden to our farmers and ranchers at a time when they are already struggling with high oil costs and drought. Several weeks ago in a Committee hearing, we found out just how far EPA wants to go in dealing with carbon dioxide emissions. Believe it or not, they actually want to regulate cows’ belching. It makes no sense to me that ranchers could be forced into buying global warming allowances from Wall Street speculators in order to allow their cows to belch.

I believe there is a better way than H.R. 2454 to deal with the issues of global warming and reducing our dependence upon foreign oil. We need a national energy policy that aggressively supports the expansion of nuclear power. Nuclear power does not emit any carbon dioxide and is a safe, reliable source of energy. Natural gas is also a relatively clean source of energy, and its domestic production should be encouraged. Public-private incentives to encourage energy conservation along with investments in clean coal technology and renewable energy such as solar, wind and biofuels should be pursued. To reduce our dependence upon foreign oil, I also support development of America’s oil and gas in Alaska and off U.S. coastal waters.

Addressing global warming is a laudable goal, but I respectfully disagree with President Obama and Speaker Pelosi on this bill and voted against it because I believe it could cost jobs and hurt the economy, especially in energy producing states such as Texas. I believe my vote was the right thing to do, and reflected the vast majority of views of District 17 citizens.

I find that humorous because Gingrich has been pushing hard in the alternative energy sector over the past year.

198,476 signatures. I just had my wife sign it to see where the numbers are at. There's no way that number is accurate. Everyone needs to pay attention, our country and way of life is on the line indefinitely.

Our government needs our help, they have an addiction. Our government is addicted to our money. Since they always have our best interest at heart it's time we return the favor. We need to have an intervention, for the governments own good of course. It's just irresponsible for us to let people with a known money addiction continue to handle our money. Lets have an intervention now so we can help these sick individuals.
