I really hope this is an April Fools joke, but a lot of people are reporting on this.

I'm not a nascar fan at all, but if this is indeed true.....

Are you Republicans still so upset over Obama that you have to result to starting threads on obvious untruths like this one? Really? First it was the gas station clerk claiming a $1 per gallon Obama tax and now this. LOL With that kind of intelligence level, it's no wonder the Republicans lost the election.

Does it really matter?

No...

What does matter is they are getting bail out money at all.

It is apart of their buisness plan, I really do hope some of it went to the marketing dept or they were destined to fail. Do you realize how much money they make off of nascar fans? You shut down your biggest marketing segment and pull out of your target market you will lose more money than you will gain by your departure.

THIS STORY IS ACTUALLY TRUE

and by NASCARs own words...the 2011 Daytona 500 will be the first test of the Electric COT....the last one running wins...

Besides everyday has been 4/1 since 1/20.

You can't fix stupid, but you can vote it out.

I would like to see more marketing data on this....no doubt NASCAR is an effective marketing tool for several different companies, but does it still work out well for the automakers? After all from a marketing aspect you could say that NASCAR is the largest sport in the United States, and the ultimate form of advertising here as well, and if that were truly the case, chevy & dodge would have a huge advantage in the market, but they dont. in fact they are out sold by car companies not even involved in NASCAR. Toyota had the number 1 selling car in america, before they got into NASCAR, but since they got into NASCAR sales have dropped off.

and if you look at the other motor sports where GM is involved. the ALMS corvette team $100 million a year, and I highly doubt a single new corvette buyer can even name a driver, let alone the color of the car.

I will try to get some market numbers for you if I can, might get me some brownie points for my class(marketing major). The ALMS corvette is a completly different animal that is geared more towards international car lovers(Yea I know it is the AMERICAN Lemans series but its more international) and we all know what manufacture the international car enthusiasts love. Toyota's jump into NASCAR was at the wrong time. I think that has more to do with the economy going to crap as soon as they jumped into the mix rather than NASCAR bringing down their numbers. Heck if we can see some aerial views of the parking lots at the TMS race and see how many chevy/fords/dodges/toyotas there are compared to other makes and models I bet the numbers will be staggering.

Brand recognition and brand loyalty are companys main goals to achieve when dealing with consumers. NASCAR has such a stubborn fan base, that when they latch onto one brand they stick with it and that is what drives the automakers into getting more and more involved.

I know that many NASCAR fans are brand loyalists, but how many of them are buying brand new cars? I have been to several races this year, and will be at TMS all weekend, and while you see a lot of fords and chevys, most of them are a few years old.

Didn't the gov do this to Dodge in the 70's when it needed gov funding. Then a few yrs ago when they finally payed everything off they came back to Nascar.

I don't think this is a new tactic. I bet Ford is very happy they did not ask for bailouts. I would rather see our gov go after the banks though.

Nascar wasn't as big then. Plus Bubba's weren't as secretly armed back then either. Everyone knew who had a gun, now you have to hide them. Who knows JJ's fans could be holding an arsenal inside Mt Rushmore...them damn Bubba's can get creative when it comes to protecting their Nascar.
