Obama lost another one

The Obama administration has just suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the lobbyists the president vowed to keep in their place, and their friends on Capitol Hill. The country has lost an able public servant in an area where President Obama has few personal credentials of his own -- the handling of national intelligence.

We donít need to restore the American Dream; we need to wake up from it.

Cohen Drops Bid for Treasury Post

By MICHAEL M. PHILLIPS
H. Rodgin Cohen, chairman of prominent law firm Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and an adviser to virtually every firm on Wall Street, has withdrawn his name from consideration to be deputy secretary of the Treasury, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Mr. Cohen is the latest in a string of candidates to drop out of the running for senior positions in the over-worked and thinly staffed department.
Others include Annette Nazareth, a former SEC commissioner, who was previously expected to be tapped as deputy Treasury secretary, and Lee Sachs, who was thought to be a candidate for undersecretary for domestic finance.
The Treasury's deputy often handles administrative tasks, leaving the secretary more time to concentrate on policy.
