They pulled this crap the last time I was at sea in 2003. A Chinese destroyer came within about 3 miles of us (USS Carl Vinson) and wouldn't back off until we buzzed'em with an F-18

Thats exactly what i said when i saw the story. The russians, chinese and north koreans have been gettin more vocal last few years. hmmm wonder why? Oh wait, probably has something to do with the fact that china has the US by the fucking balls since we dont have our own economy.

We owe a COMMUNIST country billions of dollars...does this not bother anyone? Has any country won a major war without a strong manfacturing base? WW2, germans lost cause they couldnt build shit despite their technology being WAY better than ours. Civil War, the south couldnt produce or aquire arms to fight back .....see a pattern here?

America is losing its importance and strength without its manufacturing base.I know you white collar educated people dont understand this but its fact verfied by history.

The communist countries no doubt are seeing this as a sign of america losing its power and status in the world. I think it was a excellent plan on the chinese, they were able to use our own free market against us, brilliant.

You would be an idiot for making a product here instead of china for example. Your personal profit would be 2-3 times higher by making it in china. Its genius, there is no way the US can complete with $200 dollar weekly labor, its a hillarously one sided battle. Ever wonder why jobs never got outsourced to europe? Because we were cheaper. Then how do they survive you ask? They protect their companies from uncompeitive business practices. Protectionism yes but it is necessary in order for them to keep the balance in their economy. They pay an outrageous tax on goods from america for example for that very reason.

You also dont think they are gonna keep making cheap shit do you? The american car companies should be proof of that, they never took the cheesy foreign cars seriously and look what happened... Its time to wake up and take care of AMERICA...its either us or them and they happen to be communist which last i checked tens of thousands of americans have died fighting against and people are more concerned about the ragheads? WTF?!!

The trouble with doing something right the first time is that nobody appreciates how difficult it was.

Our 3 carrier battle groups off the coast of Taiwan in 1996 shut them down with a quickness.

Yes the carriers would be the number one thing to stop an actual invasion but do you really think they havent came up with a way to take them out? Seriously? We dont know shit about what stuff they have, they are VERY secretive meanwhile
we sell our equipment to everyone in the world and post specs online...awesome.
Im sure hugo chavez would be more than happy to offer a port to a communist army looking to invade the US and cuba aswell. I would expect the mexican goverment to make a deal with them in exchange for the southern US states so they can turn them into shitholes.

I already gave the example of the germans in WW2, they had a huge technology advantage too and you see how that was working out for them. I also dont think it would only be the chinese, it would be russia and north korea aswell with us being the 800 pound gorilla in the room. Sorry but this country is a shadow of its former self and its not because the democrats, obama or bush. This got started 20-30 years ago when the then weak ass communist countries were looking for a way to take away americas number one asset..its economy and manufacturing.

Manufacturing is alive and well in this country. We build all our own ships, tanks, and aircraft here and we have the largest army in the world don't we? Besides, once GM goes bankrupt and idles 3/4 of their plants a war will be the perfect opportunity to use them. I think times are about to get real tough in this country, but I also believe we'll pull through it. If it means WW3, well, good luck to all of you.

I believe china and north korea both have armies that are quite abit bigger than ours. Thats the problem, americans think we are so supreme. That was true but im not so confident now and i honestly think now that other countries are coming up in power, they are getting confident they can take us on. Bigger army and a manufacturing based economy would wipe the floor with us, its an advantage we had for decades but now gone.

Wow, slammy! Maybe you should be packing your shit and brushing up on your Chinese! Sounds like you've sold yourself pretty well on Red China superiority...When it comes right down too it, what do you think the chinese have to fight for? What rights and freedom's are they protecting? Most of those people are living hand-to-mouth every day. It reminds me of Saddam's warrior's that folded up like a paper cup. At least Hitler's Nazi's were fighting for the "superior race", but alas, it didn't work out so well.

hahah yea yea. Suprizingly enough, the chinese people do love their country. I mean they havent had a revolution have they? How about the mexicans that come here and still wave mexican flags all over the place and talk about how great it is yet the fact they wont live in the shithole?

China is on the up and up, no they wont ever have freedom like we do but things are changing. You would think with a booming economy, ours mind you, that the common chinese person would have nice things but nope. Its all going into chinas military and why do you suppose they would do that? I mean communist countries do have a tendency to invade other countries. Vietnam and korea would be two good examples, they obviously are able to get people to fight for something.

Neither have a real navy, so that means they can't go too far outside their own borders. Secondly, they both have a huge Achilles heel. Food. North Korea currently diverts most of its food to the military, while its people starve. China imports like nearly half of its food. Both also lack the logistics to mount a foreign campaign. They'd be strong on their home turf, but they can't go anywhere else.

I agree with most of this, manufacturing makes you a strong country.

It started with free trade agreements. These usually had provisions that disallow tarriffs, and a tariff, when properly used, helps to even out the economic difference between a buyer and a seller. There is a difference between protectionism and balanced trade. We've chosen neither.

So we buy chinese shit for pennies on the dollar while they enact tariffs against US made stuff. Its an unfair playing ground with an undeniable advantage to the chinese (or mexicans, or whoever).

And, we've hobbled manufacturing with onerous EPA regulations, and compounded that with legal costs (liability issues), high taxes, complicated labor laws, and high labor costs. Gee, it's no wonder we're losing manufacturing.

Additionally, you've got US companies offshoring manufacturing as fast as they can to make more money, or just to be able to stay competitive. While this makes the stockholders happy, the resulting unemployed people are a lot less happy with it.

And, you've got US companies inshoring labor. For example, If you haven't been to a hospital lately, you'll find names like "patel" and "chang", and you'll find nurses that barely speak english. In many areas of the country you cannot find a OBGYN because the risk of lawsuits/high cost of liability insurance have run them out of business, or out of the area.

The IT industry has been heavily offshored. In the beginning the reason used was "shortage of labor". But now with tons of highly skilled US people out of work, that excuse doesn't fly. Still, the mantra to keep producing those H1Bs so that people can be imported continues. Time and again it's been proven that the employers (in this case it's big companies like microsoft) just want the cheap coolie labor, and they lie to congress to get it.

So, there is nothing in place to even out economic differences, and the US continues to slide toward 3rd world economic conditions, while also exposing itself financially to countries that don't like us.

Greed has brought us here. Yeah, this is gonna end up badly.

Hell, I completely agree with him.

What do YOU have to fight for anymore? Our way of life has now tipped away from capitalism and toward socialism. We now have a majority of voters happily leading their government sponsored lives. It's only going to get worse. I don't want to spread stupidity, laziness, and entitlement to the rest of the world. Our government does not promote innovation, hard work, and ingenuity in education or the workforce. They let kids graduate when they clearly cannot grasp basic concepts of language and mathematics. They let corporate greed grow and investor tactics move from questionable to beyond sane, and as long as investments were growing in size they didn't want to deal with the impending financial disaster. They let any company that wanted to, fire thousands of Americans and retrain and hire out of the country for the same positions. Now all we have are stupid citizens, a dying manufacturing base, and now our strong economy - which used to be our saving grace - is in shambles.

Of course I'm not saying ALL Americans are worthless idiots. But I am talking about a majority, and it is depressing. Everyone knows I'm the poster child for "living in the past" but I don't see ANYTHING promising on America's horizon.

Only 52%. I'm willing to bet a good chunk of that will see the folly of their vote.

A few years ago when Ross Perrot was trying to run for pres. he said something about the free trade agreement. It went something like this, Get ready for a Big Swishing sound in the next few years if the trade agreement goes through because all our company's will move overseas to use cheap labor and the companies that stay here will import their workers. At first I thought he was some kind of a nut now I see he was dead on right.

We donít need to restore the American Dream; we need to wake up from it.
