YAY for all that bailout money that is now in all the executives bank accounts...

What a crock of shit...

My thought is that this whole thing is following the steps as they were laid out:

Obama to the executives: We'll give you this amount, and on this date you file, effectively giving me your company.

Executives to Obama: Otay!

I think that they are fucked.

So much for their tactic of playing hardball. I wonder if they'd be willing to come to the table now and talk, given the job loss that they are about to take.

May be too late. GM needs to ditch 90% of it's line. The only cars that are really nice cost over 40k. Most consumers would buy a Honda, Toyota or Nissan over a GM when looking to drop 20k on a basic 4-door sedan. I've always felt American cars were behind the times.

When they emerge from the BK I hope they get extremely aggressive AGAINST the government in terms of what they build and how it's produced.

Might be that he is not lying but simply wrong...

Or that the company changes its mind over the weekend. Doubtful but it could happen..

But after the auditor report today, I think Chap 11 isn't far away. Frankly, I think it will be a good thing for GM in the long run. I was willing to support some of the bailout money before but it has gone too far and GM has no hope of turning a profit in the next 1 to 2 years. Stop wasting tax payer money and let them reorganize.

But on the downside, the shit is really gonna hit the fan with the economy.

Yeah, a GM bankruptcy is gonna suck the dow down to about 5k (my guess). As far as the fallout from a GM bankruptcy, that is also probably going to hit hard in many ways. But, in the long run it will probably be better for GM to take the bankruptcy and come out the other side.

lol...yea because paying your top 200 guys a million plus a year after all is said and done if the UAW's fault. If the top guys really cared about the company they would take the pay cuts from their own pockets as a show of good faith and refuse the perks at least till they are in the black again. No lets just put it on the workers, the ones that make it so the CEO gets paid all that money.

yeah, cuz getting $40/hr for putting lug nuts on a vehicle is barely a far wage.

Actually it becomes everyone's business when a company is bailed out by money that comes from the taxes you pay in.

I don't see how ch 11 will address the true problem which is the pension and healthcare that are given for life if you work 30 years.

If you and a friend were helping a friend move a fridge, and his weak clumsy ass kept having to set the fridge down, because he gets tired, and trips... Would you say, "FUCK IT! I will just put it on my back and I will carry it inside myself?"

I sure as hell wouldn't, I would say "hey you are making this hard on both of us, pick it up, or you are going to fuck the firdge up." (poor anaolgy, but you get the point)

They have cut thousands of non-union jobs, but how many union jobs? Aparently not enough.

Our main customer is GM. I was looking at our sales orders out through June and I don't see any indication that they're going away. The orders are actually starting to pick up. Then again our product goes on the Malibu and a few Saturn models.

Yeah we've had 3 rounds of layoffs since November. Our orders aren't what they were last summer but I can see things starting to pick back up.

We've also been focusing a lot on other parts of the business and building more orders for Honda and Ford.

GM is burning through $billions of cash. They should have declared bankruptcy last year. They would have had an extra $20-30billion to start over with.
