So the economy sucks. The Stimulus sucks. What would YOU do?

I'd start giving tax breaks and/or credits to companies for hiring Americans. How about this - the total dollars you pay a new employee in that year would equal the deduction in taxable income for that year. Just think all the problems that would solve - companies would be hiring, Americans would be working, government tax base would be increasing.

Do away with the IRS for individuals and implement a flat consumption tax. No more trying to get undocumented workers paying in / taking out using fraudulent identities. Everyone pays their share and you are taxed less when you choose to save money instead of spend it. I think there is benefit to having a tax code for businesses though, that way you can "incentivize" companies via the tax system.

Tax the shit out of foreign goods that are coming into the US competing with American-made products. It will make things more expensive in the short term, but overall bringing manufacturing back to the US will increase the average buying power of consumers. Besides - they tariff our stuff.

Nuclear power plants should be built all over the place. Replace the power grid while you're at it. Stop burning coal, dammit.

Build a high speed electric rail between all cities with population of 500,000 or more. Cars and planes are great, but we have to consider some cheaper alternatives for shuffling around our expanding population.

I'm thinking these are ambitious goals for four (or eight) years time, but you gotta have a plan. What's yours?

Danny, I agree with all of your thoughts EXCEPT the consumption tax. That would over a period of time : A. limit consumer spending B. create a "black" market.

Change that to a 10% flat tax on the incomes of people and corporations.

It's an ambitious plan & would take 20 years, but it would put the US in a 1960's type economy which is to say, good.

I think it would give people more money TO spend, so consumption wouldn't be an issue. And yes it would create black markets, certainly. Those would be dealt with accordingly. Besides, we already have them today, in stolen goods, drugs... and garage sales.

Since none of this will ever pass, it is all a wet dream. Our government's big plan seems to be handing our tax dollars to people that will spend it on plasma TVs, or to companies that want to give it to their executives as bonuses and getaways. Fucking scoundrels...

OK Danny you're on the right track. Suspend payroll taxes for a year to companies that hire documented workers. Flat tax....ok. NO loopholes. Business taxes would have to be restructured, but reward for re-investment. Tax money that gets transferred out of the country, both by individuals & corporations. Period.

Welfare...for those that truly need it. Cant pass the piss test...no gubment check for you. Bring back the WPA for those that can, but won't work.

Jail. No tv, no college eduaction. Make big rocks into little ones, little ones into sand. Glue the pieces back toigether & repeat. Cruel & unusual....oh well....STOP BREAKING THE LAW. Biblical punisment for particularly henoius crimes could be an option.

Nuke plants...sure. The utilities that operate 'em are held resopnsible for cleanup if a fuckup occurs. Why not wind & solar as well.....Tell the sierra club & the epa to hug a nut. I agree with using the tax law to try to get companies to do things. That's one of the reasons deductions exist in the first place. Giving tax deductions for hiring americans is a brilliant idea, but i'd add a stipulation that the deduction is only good if the employee is held for at least a year. The deduction becomes null and void in the tax year that the employee is let go.

I also agree with taxing the shit out of sending money out of the country, and on offshore labor.

IMO , the first thing that needs to be done is clean up the welfare situation we have in this country . Too many people are mooching off of it without contributing to the system . The next thing would be to tax the shit out of imported good into this country unless it was food related . On the flip side , any csh leaving the U.S would also have a heavy taxation on it . This would include oil/natural gas for import taxation . After that , I would increase drilling off shore in proven area that contain large oil deposits while encouraging companies to develop alternative energy technology with tax breaks . I am a firm believer that if we were to dry up the money flowing into the middle east , a lot of our problems would go away .

As for the banks and investment industry , I think it should have a certain amount of government over sight . Private companies not being publically traded would be on their own , win - lose or draw . If you want to be publically traded , I think the requirements should be pretty high and certain amount of transparency be required .

I am at a point where I think we need to weed out the weak companies and those that got too big too fast. I am okay with any reduction in taxes, but no government spending that is supposed to create jobs. We need private industry to create jobs, not government.

If we got to only the strong companies we could see some serious growth from them by having them contniue to be run by the leaders that saw them through the rough times.

We also need to get the lazy people to realize that they need to earn what they get, not expect it as some right. You have the right to starve to death, to live with no AC, and keep anything you earn. If you get help from my hard earned tax money you get to work for it by cleaning streets, building roads, or anything else us taxpayers say you must do to earn it.

You have no right to bling, 24's, or to sit on your ass and get government money for having more babies.

Tax incentives when you buy American made products. Help stimulate our own economy. If a person is going to buy something like a car, make it to were they get a bonus if its American made. That both helps stimulate spending as well as American jobs.

Why would you want to discourage spending in an economy when business are shutting down because they can not get people into the stores.

They should encourage spending within your limits with out racking up debt.

Good to see most of you guys supporting bringing the effing jobs back. This is something ive bitched about for years!!

Sure cheap products overseas is nice when you can afford it but when you aint got no job you aint buying shit no matter how cheap!

Some people out there seem to think that without cheap chinese shit that this country would cease to function but thats only because they make EVERYTHING now....and how exactly did we become a world superpower with a manufacturing base the rest of the world was jealous of and wanted more than anything?

It was also the source of our military might which i find amusing how arrogant some americans are about our military. We made a such damn difference in WW2 because we could outproduce everyone, the NAZI military was WAY WAY better than ours and their technology was WAY WAY more advanced but they simply didnt have the manufacturing base we had....whatcha think is gonna happen if we went to war with china right now?

History should make it pretty obvious who is or will be control soon.... fucking communist bastards.

Which brings up another point, alot of people got such a hardon to go blow up terrorists that killed 3000 americans...ok.....what about the tens of thousands of guys who died fighting communist countries which now have the ball in their court?

We let our guard down and got fucked, i think we are now seeing the results of that. They keep saying global market...ok, why arent we doing business with europe instead of the chinese, they are commmunists right? Oh wait, thats because they dont work for nothing so there is really no point to have a product made on the other side of the world because we could make it for the same price or less here..... greed has caused this effing mess and china was all too willing to help us out with it since we are "capitalist pigs". It is funny how russia is stepping up aswell...oh theres another communist country.

The trouble with doing something right the first time is that nobody appreciates how difficult it was.

This is what I want.

1. Bring back tarriffs to foreign companies. Walmart, tough shit, start buying goods from U.S. Companies if you don't want to pay it.

2. Suspend the capital gains taxes. This will make the stock market take off.

3. CUT A ton of social programs. This is not a socialist country.

4. Allow people to to either get into social security or allow them to invest into a IRA. Again, I do not like social programs.

5. Talk to all the media giants and get them to stop reporting the economy in shambles. If you cry wolf long enough, enough people will listen.

6. Get rid of all IRS Loans. Example, this new 7500 tax credit for new home buyers. If you read about it, its not a tax credit, its a fucking loan that they sugar coated the name. Who in the hell wants to OWE the IRS 7500 dollars (You have to repay that fucking credit).

7. Reform loans where you MUST PROVE Your income. This goes for credit cards/car loans/mortgages.

8. Outlaw all fossil fuel power plants. Make them use Nuke, Wind, Geothermal, hydroelectric, etc..

I dont like this bill, and the scarry part is that its not just the dems, its the repubs too. they are just arguing over who gets what tax credit or money....I have not seen one congressman tell us where the money is coming from for these tax credits and so called "loans" the truth is we are going to have to borrow this money from China and the Saudis, to large economic rivals who will profit off of loaning us the money

You don't seem to understand. What I'm saying is, you keep 100% of your paycheck instead of giving the first 20-25% to Uncle Sam. What you get taxed on is what you spend.

YOU get to choose to save or spend that first 20-25%. You really think people are going to save it? lol

Eighty-four ethics charges, most of which were leveled by House Democratic Whip David Bonior, were filed against Speaker Gingrich during his term, including claiming tax-exempt status for a college course run for political purposes. Following an investigation by the House Ethics Committee Gingrich was sanctioned US$300,000.[27] "In my name and over my signature, inaccurate, incomplete and unreliable statements were given to the committee", stated Gingrich after he finally pled guilty in January of 1997. [28] The House Ethics Committee concluded that inaccurate information supplied to investigators represented "intentional or ... reckless" disregard of House rules.[29] Special Counsel James M. Cole concluded that Gingrich violated federal tax law and had lied to the ethics panel in an effort to force the committee to dismiss the complaint against him. However, the full panel refused to reach a conclusion about whether Gingrich had violated federal tax law and instead decided to leave that finding up to the IRS.[30] In 1999, the IRS cleared the organizations connected with the "Renewing American Civilization" courses under investigation for possible tax violations

Sounds like at the very least he should be on Obama's A-list for a cabinet position.

You can't fix stupid, but you can vote it out.

Relax the Sarbanes Oxley rules to some degree.

Mandate that any taxpayer funds loaned to banks HAVE to be loaned out to non-affiliated entities that are not banks, in loan amounts $100 million dollars or less.

Suspend all foreign aid except for that going to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ban or limit the short selling of stocks. Either by making an SEC rule that limits the maximum short position or make the transaction timeframe so short that it is impossible for hedge funds to sit on massive short positions.

Regulate futures trading in the commodities markets. A free market is good but you can't have 25 contracts trading hands on one barrel of oil/oz. of gold/pork belly. It's just a giant pyramid scheme.

Impose equivalent tariffs on foreign goods. Equal footing.

I could go on forever. You've also got to figure out a way to get consumers to spend a little.

That right there is the ONLY tariff on foreign goods that I would approve of. Otherwise we'll really fuck ourselves over. People proposing all sorts of higher trade barriers might want to get a good look at the causes of the Great Depression. Too much protectionism was one of the bigger ones..
