Commerce Sec a Republican?

It looks like Obama is appointing Rep.Sen. Gregg from N.H. What do yuou think?

1. Is it a bold bi-partisan move by a strong leader? (Come on I am still a dem, you know, had to put this first.)

2. Is it a peace offering to the Rep Senate after the bailout bill? Or maybe for their votes on the bill?

3. Is it a master stroke by Obama in removing a sitting Rep. Senator and expecting the Democratic N.H. Gov appoints a Democratic/Independent Senator who allies with the Dems? Helping to give them a 60 seat majority.

4. Provide some smart expertise to the suddenly important Commerce Dept.? Gregg is a smart guy and if you really need the best minds....

I know that a lot of you all will torch Gregg for 'deserting' the party but what was your thoughts on him before the announcement.

Assurances have already been made that a Republican would fill the seat. It's just a token Republican. Dubya had all sorts in his cabinet, and Barry needs to save face...

edit* The "strong leader" reference made me chuckle...a lot.

It would not be a lie if I said I phrased it that way just for you, Paladin, Denny, et al. Thought you'd see some humor in it.

he made a deal that he wouldn't take the job unless he was replaced by a republican...i guess that the dem governor can choose an extremely "left" republican but who knows.

I saw that on one blog but I didn't see that in an actual news story. Do you have a link?

I saw several stories that mentioned the Independent Senator as an option to make both sides happy, but nothing stating it had to be a Rep.

Of course, it's a "back-room" deal that was struck. There's no real guarantee about anything. They could pull a switcheroo, but that would be ill-advised...

click on and read the first item that comes up from the "huffington post"...it talks about the deal about halfway down the page.

I can believe that. We'll know soon enough by the appointment.

It would be fair for the seat to be filled by a Rep. That is what a great leader would do - win a resounding victory, move into the newly conquered city, and win support the inhabitants. Pure Machiavelli.

Even being the lib I am, I shy away from Huffington Post. Kind of like Drudge on the other side, I don't like to source them but they often get the gossip right.

Every adminstration gives 1-2 "token" cabinet spots to people in the opposing party. Nothing new....

Looks like the honey-moon might be over.

In general, what rating would you give to Obama as president?
Poor 41%
Fair 34%
Good 15%
Excellent 10%

This came from AOL. This morning.

You can't fix stupid, but you can vote it out.

If he doesn't start making better personel decisions, he will be nearer that 10%, that is now "excellent". Anyone know where the sorry-ass congress is rated?
