Let the protectionism begin

http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/pro...121&id=9531925

A group of six North Dakota lawmakers has introduced legislation to exempt new Ford, Chrysler and General Motors vehicles from North Dakota's sales tax and motor vehicle excise tax.

The tax break would apply until June 30, 2010, to buyers of any new vehicles made by those companies. New vehicle leases would also get the tax break.

Wish I could get some protectionism on my eye. Just got hotsauce in it and that shit hurts!

While that will no doubt boost sales for them to some degree, the fact remains that more and more people are being laid off, the unemployment checks are crap, and people are becoming less likely to buy. Hell, they can't buy, what with the various lenders tightening their belts.

It's ironic that taxation is itself a large part of why the economy is in the state that it is...

They will just find a "new" tax, or raise another existing tax to make up for it. With the decline of home prices (and taxes related to it), tax revenue for states has to come from somewhere...
